Live streaming platform unveiled for global EFL fans...

Yes it is but SAFC haven't signed up to it, along with several other clubs.

If, say, 16/24 clubs have signed up for it that's still fine. Some kind soul of an opposition fan will be providing the dodgy stream via Kodi or wherever instead of an SAFC fan.

Saw this on the SAFC site re: the new fixtures:

The matches selected for live broadcast from the opening weekend’s fixtures will also be announced by the EFL and broadcaster partner Sky Sports. The first round of matches available to overseas viewers via the new iFollow platform will also be confirmed later on Wednesday afternoon.

Surprised they are mentioning it if we aren't signed up, although it's probably just an EFL press release?

I think what is needed is for SAFC to get its act together and either join the mob and allow the service website to be the provider of live video content (games) for a fee (about 100 quid for the season, your club's games only), or take the Sunderland games from them and provide them to us (us being expats outside the UK, in my case USA) via the SAFC website for the same fee. A second issue is that the early dealings with clubs would not have included us, being a Premier League team at the time. Remember that time? That is why we are not on the current lists. The club most certainly will have this as one of their top priorities to sort out, don't you think? They are the caring club, am I right? Is there anyone doing any work of any kind at the club? Over to SAFC. Don't hold your breath.

Only 13 clubs have signed up for it in the championship.

"We are therefore unable to provide subscriptions to fans of Accrington Stanley, Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Bristol City, Charlton Athletic, Derby County, Fulham, Hull City, Forest Green Rovers, Leeds United, Middlesbrough, QPR, Sunderland and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Please contact your club for more information."

Q: Which clubs have chosen to not offer iFollow to their supporters around the world?

A: Accrington Stanley, Aston Villa, Bristol City, Derby County, Leeds United, Queens Park Rangers and five other Football League clubs.

Note, however, that for the 11 clubs that haven’t signed up for iFollow, they can still live stream the same games as the other 61 EFL clubs. The only difference is the 11 clubs will do it through their own digital infrastructure and brand rather than iFollow.

All 72 EFL clubs have the ability to live stream games overseas regardless of whether they are in iFollow or not.

Do we think SAFC might put something together themselves then? The content is there and available for them to provide to fans even if they don't want to go under the iFollow umbrella.

Is there anyone at the club we can contact and annoy about this to try and get something over the line?

The club are looking into their options and will release news when they have it. Someone on here emailed them a few weeks back.

If Sunderland had an app for all live streaming I would sign up,& pay....revenues lost Sunderland if I have no access...

I think we'll be on sky most of the time anyway mate. I imagine so in any case.

Realistically, how many people will want to watch the football league from abroad? Only expats. The interest is in the Premier League.

It would hurt the club more if someone found out a way to access from the UK.
Lots of lads abroad want to watch the fizzy

This is all down to whether we have pulled our finger out our arses and built a platform in to our website to stream it and for people to buy it.

Or, we move over to the ifollow platform as our website which I think will be unlikely.

The streams are available to ALL EFL Clubs. It's down to SAFC wanting to or having the foresight to do it. Can't imagine it's on the priority list at the moment until we have a new owner, perhaps seen as an unnecessary spend at this stage to upgrade our website. Not sure what the returns would be (i.e. How many exiles there are etc), however I would imagine that it would more than cover the costs of upgrade.

Perhaps we might do it so that our new found German fanbase can tune in! ;)
