Benitez to Wistham .....

No, £80m won't allow Newcastle to achieve that in one fell swoop, but then literally nobody claimed it would...

Ashley has said he's going nowhere until Newcastle win something (even if that's just access to the CL), he knows that Benitez is the best man to achieve that, but you're on crack if you think anybody is expecting this to happen in 2017/18.

Of course Benitez wouldn't be at Newcastle if he wasn't being paid a wage he thinks he deserves, (just like fan favourite Jermaine Defoe wouldn't have joined Sunderland were it not for the wage he receives) and if a massive club come in for Rafa (which is highly unlikely) I don't doubt he'd jump at the chance. But nobody would blame him if Real Madrid lured him back

Thing is, he wants to work in England so, given that, which clubs that would want him, would he actually leave Newcastle for?

I've already said Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd and Spurs would aim higher than Rafa Benitez now.
Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Man Utd and Spurs aren't going to change their managers any time soon. Everton couldn't risk the fan backlash even if they were.

I also think there is now a fondness in Rafa for Newcastle, just as there will be for Defoe and Sunderland. A fondness that won't be the foundations of a decision, but may tip the balance.

Benitez "loves the toon" as much as Defoe is a "MLF".

Don't put words in my mouth ...... I've never said that.

What I will say, and stand by, is that Benitez won't be at Newcastle by the end of next season.

BTW, Ashley certainly doesn't believe Benitez is the best man to achieve CL ...... just the best option available, at the moment, for such a club.

Mourinho, Conte, etc would be the best men but that's beyond Newcastle.

2018/19 then ? Your fans are stupid enough to come out with it mind

premier league defences will shit themselves coming up against Gayle and Murphy next season no matter who is in charge of the scums
Unfortunately our defence won't be one of those s#####ng themselves:oops:

Only way Benitez is leaving is if he doesn't get the funds to strengthen the squad. Even then I'm not convinced West Ham would go back in for him, they're better off seeing who's available in the summer for nowt.

Sorry that pisses on your chips lads.

He won't get anywhere near what he's hoping for but I for one could not give a rats ass if he stays (and I have it on good authority he is going).
He is way too cautious, and my Durham mag colleague says the football overall is functional not entertaining.
The PL is a tough one to stay in but as Burnley have proved, you don't have to spend a fortune to survive.

I've said lots of times I can't decide which would provide the best fun, when he leaves or when he stsys and his mediocre performance, in the Championship, with the vast money spent are replicated in the Premier League next season.
If of course he stays, oh imagine after he's been 7th highest paid manager, it doesn't work and he can blame Ashley. Time will tell

Are you trying to say Conte and Mourinho wouldn't consider the mighty newcastle?are you on drugs?

 behave man, obviously I meant Benitez is the best available man for Newcastle at the minute. I mean, Sir Alex Ferguson from the 90s would be great, but that's not how reality works  All but 2 or 3 clubs are in exactly the same state, all but 2 or 3 could lose their manager if a better option became available, all but 2 or 3.

The filter you put on Newcastle topics isn't very subtle. By mentioning Conte or Mourinho you allow others to infer that somehow Newcastle fans would believe that was possible. By mentioning Champions League you encourage people to react to that as if Newcastle fans believe Champions League qualification is a genuine concern.

You make out like Benitez' tenure at Newcastle is chiefly because of a lack of options for either party, which is silly. Benitez would not be at NEwcastle if he didn't want to, it's not like he particularly needs the money. Newcastle have a remarkable trophied manager instead of John f***ing Carver.

Now, of course Benitez is being remunerated with a package that takes into account a manager of his caliber shouldn't be managing in the 2nd tier (cue BUT HE RAFAGATED YIZ from some of the less original members), and of course if a better option (considerate of his criteria) came along, he'd leave. As it stands he's clearly enjoying the challenge, but is clearly frustrated that he wasn't allowed to further strengthen the team with players who could perform in the 17/18 Premier League.

Benitez might not be here by the end of 17/18, there are so many variables to consider; has he performed in his duties, has Ashley delivered on his promises, has another club in a better situation come calling, does that courting club meet Benitez criteria, has a better manager become available that Newcastle could entice?

But that is also true of every other manager on the planet. If Man Utd seriously pursue Pochettino he'd leave Spurs. So what's your point? Is it just that you are reacting to the genuine affection the Newcastle crowd have towards Rafa? That, despite his failings, the Newcastle fans aren't the fickle reactionary arseholes we're portrrayed to be?

I'd not be terribly surprised if he went, because I know damn well that Ashley would rather gamble on this squad surviving, than put enough down to pay for a proper Premier League side and that justifies Benitez telling him to get fucked, imo.

The football isn't free-flowing, to be fair, but I don't mind that because we're winning. If we play pragmatic football that doesn't get results then I'll be bothered. That said, we've scored more goals than anyone else in the division, we've smashed teams at times and only injuries and suspensions have stopped Gayle from scoring even more. It'd be great to play Sexy Football, but that doesn't win you titles in competitive league. A solid defence, a control of the game, an efficiency up front.

Think we'll not benefit from feeling like the underdog as Burnley have. They've scrapped for every minute of every game because they're playing against "bigger" clubs almost every week. We won't have that mentality and it could be our undoing; we can turn up and beat Rotherham, we can't turn up and beat Swansea.
