Wanna be retired by 55 me like. Mortgage paid off, rent out the parents house when they die, their place is already mortgage free. Kids will be up and gone by then as well hopefully.
What about when the parents need care homes?

If you have made sufficient provision you can go as early as you want from age 55, no need to wait until SPA.
I'd lose a shitload with a fully paid in public sector pension tho wouldn't I?

I'll have 40 years in mine at 57.

Spot on. But personally I don't think reform should be moving the age higher. Living longer yes but with what capacity?

If not then the answer is more National Insurance Contributions, see how that went for the Chancellor when he tried for the self employed in the last budget. The problem is we all want more but are not really happy to pay for it, the idea from some is to pass the debt to future generations.

It probably is mate. I can't think of a job in the world that I'd happily do over doing what I want all the time mind.

I get on with pretty much everyone I work with n'arl.
I only come to work to wear me old clothes out really,I also get great pleasure in building my network of contacts to gain discounts for fellow MLF.

I.e. :paul from Travis Perkins etc

Depends on whats going on with the markets/your scheme at the time of retirement. My father in law is looking at retiring at the minute and his final salary pension transfer value is huge so he is going early (56) and taking the cash.

40 years in the NHS scheme(s) and you'll be sitting pretty at retirement.

If that's the deal they paid for. Mind I don't understand self employed paying less Nat Insurance. Income tax breaks or incentive s yes.

It's the same thing essentially
NI specifically relates to employment, Income tax doesn't. So when they aren't covered for things like maternity or sick pay, it makes more sense to reduce NI rather than income tax
