£80pm would be the difference between eating or not? Are you really that skint?

Unless that means we've turned into a communist state.

Only because of repayments for things. My contract expires in Sept and with no guarantee of anything new I'm trying to pay about £400 a month towards overdrafts and credit cards

If I wasn't paying that I'd be eating lobster and bathing in Champagne

Anyways my point was some people can't afford any pension contributions at all

Over-rated.

Anyone done their state pension checker? Also tells you your NI contributions down the years.

Would i fuck be able to do my current role at 70. Crawling around under people's stairs and up in their lofts.

No employer pension for me. Working as many hours as I can and putting as much as I can afford into an equity ISA. That way if my health take a turn for the worse, I can draw on it before pension are if I need to.

Wanna be retired by 55 me like. Mortgage paid off, rent out the parents house when they die, their place is already mortgage free. Kids will be up and gone by then as well hopefully.

"Retire when I'm 55" the amount of times I've heard lads say this over the years is staggering.Dont think anyone of them had any significant plan /drive to do so .

I'd guess if I could (which I think I could at that age ) then I wouldn't as long as I'm fit etc .

It's hardly a stretch, people in the 40s/50s now already have to wait until they're 68 to get their state pension.
mine has gone up until I am 66.The wife has an extra 6 years from 60 to 66. On the otherhand though they want equality, so there it is

I did. takes a lot of savings over difficult times and being in a good pension scheme is a must. however after being off for four months, got bored and it was sending me doowally. Not nice waking up and not being able to fathom out what day of the week it is. Good thing is I can work at what I want to do and enjoy. Its not for the money, its for the activity and company

Exactly my opinion of things aswell mate ,I'm 39 but personally I need a purpose/aim in life, something to work to .

Only people who I do know that enjoy sitting about doing nowt from day to day are lazy kernts who are really just waiting to die.

or don't want to work, whether it be out of habit or just laziness I don't know. I can understand though, that those who have no activity during the day, whether it be different company or physical or mental activity will be sent into depression and that's not a nice place and the cost to the public purse is enormous.

You are so right in that we all must have a purpose or aim in life to work to. those aims and purposes will change over the years, but it is what keeps us going, to improve our life

Nope people are just living longer because of advances in medicine. None of this seems to give any consideration to the quality of the additional years of life expectancy.

I see the tv programmes about people who are over 100 and it looks as though the majority have no quality of life. I have to agree though, that nature must take its course naturally.

My wife will have about 12 years still to work once I hit retirement, so hopefully that'll work in my favour when it comes to retiring early.

Yet another attack on the working classes. Can`t have the plebs retiring now can we? There`s more than enough money for everyone, yet what we have is a system that continues to funnel the bulk of the money into the hands of the few to the detriment of the majority. All of those hard fought for rights are slowly being eroded. The rich get richer while we all work harder and longer for less. Not the way a civilised society should be heading in the 21st century.
