Ten German Bombers

The opportunity for the Nazi's to gain power was largely manufactured by the Treat of Versailles.
After being crippled financially by the allies post WW1, when Adolph started screaming about making Germany great again and binning the Euro leeches it sounded very attractive to the voting public (sound familiar).
Also right wing movements were prevalent all over Europe at the time, we had ours, if the wind had blown a different way we could have easily ended up allies with the Nazi's.

That's all true, but I'm not sure what your point is.

The Argies can go on about it as much as they want. They had a crack and lost.

It wouldn't offend me in the least.
See, you and gipetto claim this, which is pretty understandable because you're sat in an office/at home/wherever and not on the terraces. But I'm pretty confident that, were you amongst the England fans as they face Argentina in a competitive game and the South American fans began chanting about killing British soldiers, those little veins on the side of your head would bulge as you and the rest of the England fans screamed bloody murder back at them.

Better example, if England faced Egypt and some Egyptian fans started singing about the 7/7 bombings, would you be relaxed about the whole affair?

People will literally get offended on other peoples behalf about anything these days.
I'm not offended because it might upset the Germans.

I'm offended because it makes people of my nation look like a bunch of knuckle-dragging, xenophobic neanderthals. They are an embarrassment to all right-minded English people.

They say that travel broadens the mind, but they clearly learnt fuck all on the trip over to Dortmund.

I see that the England football fans are getting a bit of stick again by the press saying .....that it's seventy years ago and that's not what the veterans would have wanted.

What a load of bullshit. It was good against evil and the press are ok to bring four page commemorative inserts out about various commemorative services here, there and everywhere still making money out of the wars. The veterans would love it especially the ones that got killed not knowing the outcome of WW2

Ten Germans Bombers is sang mostly in jest but in my opinion that jest can go on for a thousand years.

We'll not be able to mention the wars at all next.

What is it f***ing coming to?
The Germany we played at football yesterday, I would not even consider that as the same country as the Germany we beat in the World Wars. It'd be like mocking the Germans for something the Prussians did during the 18th and 19th century wars

The German football team even plays in the colours of the Prussian flag

Probably not to be fair. As you say I'm at home relaxed whereas having probably had a few beers at a football match I might be a bit more "pent up."

But let's compare the three examples:

Ten German Bombers: A chant about RAF fighter planes shooting down German bombers that were trying to pave the way for a Nazi invasion of Britain.

Argies singing about the Falklands: Argentina decides it should invade an island because it's closer to it's own shores despite nobody living there actually wanting Argie rule or having any affiliation to Argentina.

Hypothetical Egyptian fans singing about 7/7: Presumably sang by Islamic extremist sympathisers about the targeting of innocent civilians in a terrorist attack.

Or... A chant designed to anger/upset/offend fans of the opposition sports team.

Just banter, innit.

People are still alive that experienced the last war.

I think once you start talking in centuries it's time to let it go.

I'm sure a result from 1908 used to get mentioned a lot in here around 2011 before the 6IAR.
