i the north end was iffy but south end all students them days walk to station bit iffy as well what gets me with 99% of these teams fans they dished it out at home but ive never seen them at roker bar footy fans from there clubs so in all no respect to there so called hard boys non at all bar maybe man u liverpool leeds west ham chelsea thats it ohh them up road sometimes ehh .ohh and ftm ps we travel in numbers still to this day

Thanks to you and everyone else, I'm really glad so many people have enjoyed it so much.

The thread must be a real kick in the teeth for those people who invariably come on hilariously posting 'pwopa nawtee', at any thread such as this, or insisting no one is interested in the stories from Sunderland supporters about the times they lived through ......
...... I think this thread demonstrates that people were more tolerant, of each other's faults, in those days and much more ready to laugh at themselves.

People, these days, are so quick to pick up on the tiniest things and quick to forget that this is all supposed to be just a laugh. Endless agonising about transfer fees, players contracts, etc are dreary no matter how factual. Yes, we may all be looking back in a nostalgic haze but it's just how it was and I, for one, won't apologise for being young, daft and living in the times we were born into.

It was bloody good fun, none of us were perfect but I'm so glad for all the memories ...... bloody great :lol:

First time at Preston 74? I could see some of ours fighting on their end. I trotted round the pitch alone for a look see. Saw ours were outnumbered & trotted back. Saw my older cousin & mates so waved them towards me to help out. Suddenly the whole end just swarmed onto the pitch & ran towards their ( high) end. Loads went over the wall & up the terrace & chased pne out the back. We all went back to our end, walking past shocked locals ;)
Got home & my mam said Dickie Davis had been on tv talking about it, she asked me what I'd seen & I just said....seen nowt :)
All this is absolute truth
 
might be wrong but I think too much emphasis is on pitch...supporting Sunderland is about so much more than players managers and scores for me its memories and stories and people u meet on trips..some of my football heroes are fans not players.lads who made me who I am today...as tbe song goes WE ARE SUNDERLAND

This thread proves that the best memories are of Sunderland friends & strangers over the years.

People are often unsure of the year, the team or the score but the characters and laughs are still crystal clear ;)
 
Aye @Reiver cracking thread.
Despite not doing tranny van trips, had lots of laughs along the way.
However, had plenty of "bricking it" moments - Wolves, skunks, boro, whu, Chelsea, to name just a few, so it wasn't all rosey in the garden.
I don't know if you have kids, but am so glad times have changed in that I don't have to worry about him going away to games.
Having said that, give me the old days over these days. Disneyland football now.

We did it at selhurst park. Some poxy night match against Charlton in some shitty cup. Ended up at the athletics track
 
had a few beers watching blackpool v sland the mick walsh goal ... from our end i was in with my late dad n bro i was a real teeny then chants of come on you reds the fast version loud n clear along with theres ganna be a nasty accident ...and the one and only geordies here geordies there geordies evey f.....g where ......i remember the blackpool skins next to us chanting my all time favorite from an opposing teams fans .....we are the nutters we come from the sea .

them days everyone joined in on my old dvd its loud and clear my late bro made it from a vid to dvd 80s i think the camaras must have been next to our end for motd ..brilliant times


at the end blackpool fans chanting go home yaa bums go home yaa bums go home yaa bums go home in return you here from our lot just your ganna get your f.....g heads kicked in ....

could you imagine this now been chanted nor ...or the tv letting you here chants ..

96 it was changed over just found out bit crackly bit hasey scratched but al try to get a copy made up for tl for our night never thought i had this was in bottom of his old cricket bag i emptied few weeks ago fate ehh ,

That was when they shut the pubs around the ground but left the off licence open.
Crates of beer were being taken into the ground right past the police.
The pitch invasion was funny as fuck, just like you said the Preston lot were giving it large and scattered at the sight of the makem horde.
I seem to remember someone's jacket being set alight as well.

There was a Daily Mirror headline a short while after about one of our lot being arrested for hoying an empty whisky bottle at the polis who were trying to keep us in our end. Not funny in itself but I can remember how he was identified & that was - he had a pair of red knickers on his head ;)

Getting in old & mixing up games but don't think that was the game that Man U went through to Blackpool was it? Some of them were giving it the big un whilst some were singing Sunderland United - this had come from us joining up outside Kings X/St Pancras when lerds of cockerneees turned up after some game. They had also had quite a few in the Kippax in the cup game where they had said " come to give you a hand but you clearly don't need it" ;)

do The Pirates still exist mate ? We used to stand beside you in the Fulwell, behind the pillar which was the only spot left at 3.05pm !

Still exist just a younger generation,,met up with the owld Pirates down Covent Gds all Stanley and Consett lads
