Reet here we go, was late 60's outside the Leazes, RK and the crew trying to get in, some mags ran at them, Celtic pulls the pop gun, minus the corks from under his mac and had the mags pinned against the wall, those that didn't run that is.
Sunderland were in the Leazes that day, was I boxing day I think, held their ground and even took it for a spell.
Was RK, Ham, Rosco,L.Calvert, Buttons,Wilfie, J.Summers etc

Gremlins are all fairies mate. This was in the days of Doddsie, Kit Kat etc. They shit themselves when RK and the crew turned up that day, I was only a teenager and looked in awe as they attacked the Leazes, it was taken only the police restored order.

Was there not a segregated area in those days for the derby or was The Leazes their lads end?

No segregation, not then anyway, yes it was Fulwell End and Leazes End.
No tickets either was pay at the gate.

I've been in the gallowgate end twice when there's been no segregation, not a particularly pleasant place to be as a Safc fan , watching the ***** mobbing up outside then coming up the stairs en masse , that was before the unescorted walk back to the central station.

Might laugh about it now , but it was a scary place to be as a daft teenager in the 70's , many a sigh of relief was breathed out by the time you got back to the CS .

This one might make you laugh but it was a long way from being funny at the time.

Two of us came up from Mansfield for the SJP 1-1 league game in 1990, couldn't get into the away terrace so went in the paddocks with the Mags.

Sunderland scored and we were sussed, probably because we were jumping around like lunatics

The Sunderland players were still celebrating so the Mags were a bit distracted screaming at them, we decided to jump up onto the pitch and run to our end.

We shouted some insults at the Mags around us, jumped onto the running track and headed for the Sunderland end ....... a massive copper grabbed us, thinking we were Mags on a suicide mission to attack the away end. He threw us back into the Mags who knew we were Sunderland so we jumped back onto the running track, swerved the copper and ran like he'll.

As we got to our end the Sunderland lads piled down the front thinking we were Mags

Thankfully my mate had the sense to whip out his scarf and start waving it round his head before we stage dived into our end.

As exiles we never managed to get away tickets so always had this horrible pantomime for years ..... my first ever time in the Sunderland section was for the 5-1 ffs.

At NCS after some game at the landfill- was it a Texaco cup or summink - around 74, sure it was pre season?

Anyways as the usual commotion was gan on, I was on my own as per & looking for my Wakey train, got sussed & chased. Jumped on a Carlisle ( I think ) train & hid in the bogs.
managed to get off 5/10 minutes later just as it was leaving & scuttled about, ducking & diving until the Leeds train ;)

It's nothing to ridicule you Reiver and to be fair this is a discussion we had in private several years ago. And obviously it's nothing to do with the weirdoes who follow you round like Haway/Jardine. Only the Internet could invent freaks like that with their NUFC addictio0ns/personality disorders. My only point without trying to score them was that there was different SAFC stories from different ages.

And to answer your question ours would probably be Stoke in Newcastle under Lyme/ Rangers in Dennistoun/ Hibs in Edinburgh the time before they started knocking Mums and Dads about/ Newcastle the same day at Central Station and many other times that are probably best not mentioned/ Huddersfield on the opening day/ Derby/ Chelsea the time up here after 1985/ Luton the time after 1990 which was probably a generation later under Roy Keane/ Cardiff/ PSV in Amsterdam for the Cup Final with Feyenoord/ Burnley in 1995(?); the battle of the Casuals and the chase after 60 minutes to catch the Mags back from Manchester/ Zulus on the last day in the 2nd Division (when we missed Saffron from Republica- worse than 10 years in jail!)

None of these were events where anyone broke the law and naturally I was not there: I only heard these stories later from others. But these were occasions everyone talked about in the way everyone on this thread talked about moments in the 1970s/1980s. It's just that each generation naturally remembers its memorable occasions. As I'm sure the 25/30 generation will when we're all gone.

The difference Steve, is that from mid 80s, it tended to be more "organised" and those who wanted frisk with each other could just crack on. However, the police were sussing things to an extent and there was segregation and far more all ticket games curbing large away followings.

The late 60s to a certain extent and 70s especially, were probably more dodgy.
No or little segregation, far too few coppers on match day (there was a report in one paper of the police presence at an safc-nufc derby and it was pitifully small by todays standards despite them saying it was massive at the time) and large gangs of lads milling about virtually unhindered dishing out kicking to those not even remotely interested in fighting.
Imho, the 60s and 70s were far worse than the more controlled, policed and organised days of mid 80s onwards.
Just my opinion.

My regularity at games dropped off ( as said previously) & coincided with all ticket every game. Your right, it just about stopped the "violence" at games & allowed the ones who wanted it to crack on. But it made it (& still is) very often "sterile".

We know the truth. You out on Sunday or back at work?
No won't be at work as I'll be in Walsall at around 10.30 tomorrow morning before the match and stopping at Wakefield on the way back so a cold walk back along the lane to Sunnybrow about 1.30 Sunday morning
