Blackpool brought a few about 74/75 when they were pushing for promotion. We beat them 2-1 then chased the fuckas into the sea after the match.Asked the same question a while back.
Cant recall many big turnouts in 70s at all to RP.
Mags of course.
Chelsea in 74 or 75 about 2000 in RE.
West Ham and the sit down game had 700 max and Spurs when they got turned on to the pitch 77 only had 500ish.
Leeds normally turn out but Dec 76 there was a poor show from them.
Boro ha! Not in 70s or 80s.
Sheff Wed had a few hundred 74-75 when we cuffed them there nowt.
Never "got" how we could take thousands all over country, yet so few came to RP.
that was sammy the chin smith they thought it was jaws on dry land ,,Blackpool brought a few about 74/75 when they were pushing for promotion. We beat them 2-1 then chased the fuckas into the sea after the match.

Talking of Felling a skin from the real early days, Docker from Felling, me and him got lifted at Bristol away, first season down 69 before the game but were let out.Excellent stuff, had a pint with you on occasions then as used to pop in with my dad and brother for a bit craic with the Fellings lads.
I went to the same school as him anarlYes Neil Hunter, same age as me, in fact he was in my class, SAFC through and through. Always used to ask if I wanted to go away with him to the games.
Geordie Cole HC wasn't he?Hylton Castle Vauxie?Jimmy,Jakey were from Seaham
What about Anita? He was also but so were the Cole brothers.
There were no more than a thousand rhs of RE as you faced pitch. We scuppered their promotion hopes even tho we were out of the running ourselves. I went away with the Gateshead lads once. It was a mid week cup game at Man City.
We missed the kick off . I was sat at the front of the coach and got into an argument with the driver who didn't have a clue where he was going.
We could see the floodlights but he didn't know where he was going. Anyway we got there late and missed the kick off due to this Wanker of a bus driver. Btw I told him he was a Wanker.
Got to Maine Road, me and my mate, back of the Kippax, we asked a copper for the away turnstiles. He told us where to go, the place was deserted as everyone was inside. Anyway we paid in and went up the steps and over into the terracing.
Everyone was blue and white. We were red and white and black.
We were chased along the back of the Kippax and we ran towards our fans. We were kicked and punched and got to a big fence where the coppers shielded us they opened a door and led us into no man's land where they kicked Feck out of us.
They were going to arrest us but they let us in with our own fans.
Thank God.
I'm sure we drew 1-1 Shaun Elliott scored for us.
Great . Went back to the Gateshead bus and the driver wouldn't let me back on. He said if I got on he wasn't driving it.
Can anyone of you Gateshead lads remember that ?
Of course I offered to fight everyone and anyone you all shit yersels and the coach left without me.
So, Wednesday night about 10.15 pm marooned in Manxhester.
Just another away game.
Another home escapade. Dunno they year, late 70's home game v mags. About 15 of us went up and got in the Wolseley at opening time. Got a pint and there were about 10 other lads in when after about 15 minutes the door opened and in poured a load of mags. A coach had dropped them off over the road.
The atmosphere was wierd. There was silence at first. They queued up for their pints and we weighed up the numbers. They said Feck all, neither did we.
They started to make themselves comfortable and started to take their seats when one of my mates just got up said nowt, walked over to them and started punching anything that moved. Obviously we backed him up and the whole room went up. Wild West scenes.
Tables, glasses mirrors smashed, one of theirs started throwing pool balls. This made things worse we went berserk. They got outside and it carried on on the pavement till they fecked off. A few of them didn't want trouble and they were left alone but the ones who did got it, especially the big lad with the number 9 on the back of his black and white shirt.

Obviously we had to leave quickly. We went to the Supporters club and ended up getting to Roker late. We were walking down to the Fulwell behind the main stand when a group of about 40 mags ca e through the parked cars walking towards the Roker End. This was in the area of the old ticket office. The matched had kicked off and it kicked off right there. We were outnumbered and saw them when they were about 40 yards away, no one said owt but we knew what was gonna happen. We just ran at them fighting around the cars. I saw some of their lot laid out. We ran towards the Fulwell, they ran towards the Roker End. One of our lads needed to go to hospital the next day.
We didn t know anyone from the town, although I am sure reading this thread I've probably drank with or stood with plenty of you just never got to know names.
This is an example of us taking the initiative, but it was in response to an earlier visit to Sid James when we were given grief.

I couldn't believe how many of them had waded out into the sea and into waist deep waves to get away from our nuttersRemember that, got a shock at the number of them as no one brought any up usually. On the beach they ran into the sea, some followed ( not me, didn't fancy the train back to Wakey in dripping clays). Can still see one of their big lads walking back towards us, having been in the watta over his waist, in tears, begging not to get a smack, offering his wallet. Iirc someone accepted his offer, helped him out the sea, only for someone else to give him a dig. & yes Sammy was there![]()
I often wonder what it would of happened if all these lads got to together when we did travel in the early days . As I would travel with a group of 7 - 8 lads regular from Peterlee and on the big games closer to home 15-20 but apart from Sheff utd when Elvis had just died I can never remember squading up and that just happened by chance as 3 bus loads pulled into a car park at the same time over the road to a building site and all hell broke loose and we never took a back step once all day
