I'm not enjoying the season at all, but the elation I felt after Chelsea and in particular after Everton, which made up for the shit prior to that, could only have been matched by Newcastle fans it seems.

How long does that elation last though? And isn't a case of diminishing returns? Surely each year that starts so poorly more quickly washes away that elation than the last?

It was worth it at the time and yes it does diminish, but you can't take nights like that away. It's all very well beating Barnsley but nights like that is what football is about.

Hang on, nights like scraping survival is what football is about? Ok, I understand now, you and I have very different ideas about what football is about. I thought football was about trying to win things, playing good football and the lads on the terraces. All but 3 teams would see finishing 17th as a disastrous season. Certainly to do so year on year. But you see scraping survival as what football is all about.

I doubt many of your fellow Sunderland fans would agree with you, pretty sure most want more than the repeated torture of mere survival.

Not pretending he didn't say it, just saying it's misdirection. At best to make negotiations in future transfer deals more favourable, at worst just because he's a proven liar.

In May we were expecting the team to push on and have a season well away from relegation trouble. This doubled up with Benitez leaving Newcastle, riots in the toon and mags struggling in the 2nd tier would have made for a fantastic season.
Unfortunately the mags haven't rioted, looks like they'll be promoted and we're playing shite and bottom of the league.
At the moment we're on a sinking ship, they've made the life boat after falling in. Not much to gloat over.
Of course if the management and players got their fingers out we'd be on a different boat sailing away.

A lot of their players in the first team havn't kicked a ball in the championship before this season, but they're still top of the league.

All this "Championship experience" is utter bollocks. If you're a good player you're a good player and you'll stand out miles in that league, just like their players are. The same for their manager, it's makes absolutely no difference if he's had experience in that league or not. He's a world class manager and that will tell in the end.

All this "needing championship experience" is absolute bollocks and a lot of our lot are proper clutching at straws.

By this thought process Derby should be miles ahead of Newcastle due to having "more championship experience" in the team and their manager. But they're not are they. The same can be said for nearly all the teams in the Championship. It's bollocks and Newcastle are proving this. The *****!

Someone finally talking sense when Juventus were relegated to serie b none of the likes of buffon, del piero, trezeguet, nedved or the manager had serie b experience but these good players were head and shoulders above the rest in that lower league

Having a world class manager and better players is the main issue all this championship experience is absolute shite by that thought process teams like Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich would be the best teams in the division as they have been around the longest

Meanwhile since we battered you lot at the end of last season, we've lost our manager, lost some of our better players, made some questionable signings (hoping they'll still come good), our crowds are down, and we haven't won since, barring those 2 league cup games.

Let's just say it hasn't really turned out quite how I'd imagined it would after that incredible night back in May.

Still, beat West Ham tomorrow and things will look different.
