Broke even? You're suggesting c£30m was paid in loyalty and agent fees this summer?Money in the bank? You have bought and sold and after loyalty and agent fees have more or less broke even. You haven't reduced your costs (several more players @ less wages = around the same amount) and have lost around £30M in TV money compared to last season.
This season teams get £100M from Sky etc, you get circa £35M. Fat Mike will be bank rolling this season.
Parachute payments, years of profits in the transfer windows, and a club that (for all it's many faults on the pitch) is financially secure off it says to me that we've money in the bank. But Keith off of a Sunderland message board says we're relying on Mike Ashley's famous generosity this year.
Good grief.
I'm not enjoying the season at all, but the elation I felt after Chelsea and in particular after Everton, which made up for the shit prior to that, could only have been matched by Newcastle fans it seems.
How long does that elation last though? And isn't a case of diminishing returns? Surely each year that starts so poorly more quickly washes away that elation than the last?
