You could just as easily be like Villa should you be relegated. Even Bruce might come back.

Typical deluded, arrogant mackems thinking you would walk the championship.

Saying it as a double standard as if the tables were turned....

Would we be able to gloat at you? Not really as in the Championship.

If we hadn't won a game by late October and you were top of the league? I'd expect there would be some gloating tbf.

No, because of the things I've mentioned, better manager, better players, able to attract better players, money to spend etc... its all about the bigger picture and making steps, which I'm certain we will do.
according to you, you had better players last season and were also certain of finishing top half of the Premiership, whilst we would be relegated
You are doing well in the second tier, we get it.

2 points more than you can get in the Premier league this season no matter what happens yet. If you do come up and we go down so be it then can gloat.

Till then :lol::lol::lol:

It's a wonder how teams settle in The Championship considering all of this 'Championship experience' should see you successful. Total paradox.

Excellent points!

Ah I see.

Don't agree with you like, but I see. Heard it all before how class you's are the last time you were in the championship.

Thus far, Mike Phelan 40% win ratio in the Premiership
Rafa with Newcastle 30%
Easy this selective stat malarkey

25% surely? 2 wins out of 8?

So you're gloating that you're in The Premier League no matter how shit you currently are?

Except mine was relevant to the discussion. You implied Rafa wasn't a good manager and was undeserving of the praise he gets from the Newcastle fans. Those stats show that, thus far, he's performing well in the 2nd tier, despite having none of that much vaunted "Championship experience".

Rafa's performance in the final games of the 15/16 Premier League season has nothing to do with Mike Phelan's performance in the 16/17 Premier League, and little to do with anything else, to be honest.

You would have us believe that we shouldn't be happy because we're used to limping along in the Premier League. Well, Benitez is clearly a good manager and far better than any of us hoped to get. He's in control of the club, which is a far better situation than any of us expected. If you can't set aside your partisan blinders to see that, then I'm afraid the conversation cannot progress beyond this point.

stupid f***ing wiki  counted his cup games. I told you it was selective

No mate never have said Rafa wasn't a good manager, I think he is. We've had the discussion before about how he should be culpable for relegation. My point is it is still very early days and if what the OP posted had came about, you'd be trailing a bit. It isn't a foregone conclusion. Lets put it this way we are both happy that you are in the Championship then

Excellent post. I'm afraid to many people on here lie to themselves about Newcastle. And make stories up about them. I'm embarrassed to be a sunderland fan sometimes.

have you been hacked again mag? You aren't a Sunderland fan and I have the PM to prove it

I will go on loving you through thick and thin for better or for worse :)

Well, you're happy we're in the Championship because you hate Newcastle United. I'm happy we're rebuilding from a rather sorry state and look like we're going to return to Premier League in a far better state than when we left. That we're going through that rebuilding process while winning games is a bonus. Even if Norwich were top of the Championship, we'd still be moving in the right direction and only 1pt behind the leaders with a significantly healthier GD.

If Sunderland go down and rebuild in a similar fashion you'd be similarly happy. If we'd come down and had Aston Villa's start, I wouldn't be happy at all.

Which is the point.

The Newcastle fans wouldn't trade places with Sunderland because of the respective directions the clubs are currently moving in. We seem to be progressing as a club, and Sunderland, (at the minute) seem to be stagnating at best, regressing at worst.

Don't be, all clubs have fans that let them down. Some Sunderland fans may make up tales of the Mag at Work, but a Newcastle fan punched a horse.

I'll be quite happy for you to win games at the top of the Championship for many years. Like I say early early days, meanwhile I will see Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea, you can have Rotherham, Barnsley and Burton Albion. I must admit the football from us is dire. Enjoy

I hated seeing those clubs embarrass my side and yes, sometimes Newcastle would match or better those sides. But never, in all my days did I come away from another loss to a "Big Club" and think, "Well, at least I got to see Man Utd." And of course, when you operate in the lower reaches of the Premier League you, more often than not, see your team let you down (either in terms of application or just simply quality). Not just against the English football's behemoths, but losing to Southampton, or Swansea. I didn't look at the table, see us in 17th below the great, the good and the frankly pretty f***ing average and think, well, it could be worse I could be in a league without Manchester City.

I am enjoying this season, of course I am, can you honestly say you're enjoying this season so far? Beyond the odd schadenfreude you get from knowing that Newcastle are in a league below? So while we're beating Brentford on the Saturday and Barnsley on a Tuesday night, you're getting beaten by Stoke on a Saturday afternoon. I'd wager I am having a better time of it. When we come back up it hopefully won't be as perennial strugglers, it'll be a fresh Newcastle United, shorn of all the shit of the past few years. Then I can look forward to Rafa testing his mettle against Klopp, Mourinho, Pep and Wenger.

Oh and I have Kodi, I can watch the best clubs field their best players against whomever they're up against. Or if I'm so inclined I can get tickets to go and watch them live, so I don't feel like I'm massively missing out on being in the same league as them at the minute, especially as it looks like we'll be back soon enough.

I'm not enjoying the season at all, but the elation I felt after Chelsea and in particular after Everton, which made up for the shit prior to that, could only have been matched by Newcastle fans it seems.

It's great to be in the top flight, but I genuinely would want to be in Newcastle's position, rather than Sunderland's (with all the facets of both positions included).

Unless something drastic changes at Sunderland, it looks like it's going to be another season of frustration. Another season without much to cheer about. Yes, you're in the top flight now, and you may even survive once more, but don't you want more than that? More than just being (in your own fans' words) "the turd that won't flush"?

As it stands, Newcastle United are looking good for their promotion push and have money in the bank from the parachute payments + the monies received from player sales this summer. If Newcastle are promoted, they've a squad of lower Prem/Upper Champ players that they can add to without bankrupting themselves. Doesn't mean they'll necessarily stay up if they are promoted, but they at least have a clear vision, a single minded focus. And all roads leads to Rafa.

To put it into context, I wouldn't swap Villa's position for Sunderland's and I wouldn't swap Bournemouth's position for Newcastle.

Money in the bank? You have bought and sold and after loyalty and agent fees have more or less broke even. You haven't reduced your costs (several more players @ less wages = around the same amount) and have lost around £30M in TV money compared to last season.

This season teams get £100M from Sky etc, you get circa £35M. Fat Mike will be bank rolling this season.

"The turd that won't flush " - now that did tickle me...
