Reasons why Leicester will plummet next season

I expect most reasonable observers will have them somewhere between 3rd and 8th in the league next season. I'd go for 6th.

They do have an opportunity here to establish themselves as a strong upper PL side for a few years, or perhaps longer. They've just pocketed a fortune and have another big season of income if they do well in the CL and again finish highly in the league (we all have a big wedge coming but theirs will be bigger than ours so they do have an opportunity to invest more in the team than we do, and can obviously attract better players than we can, sad as it is to admit). In many ways, that opportunity should be the real legacy of their title win (though of course the win...or perhaps thinking of it as their first win...will always be in the record books), and it will be a shame if they take the money and run, so to speak, without having a go at becoming a long-term success.

I think looking at the factors in my OP. I'd predict 10th. Depends how relevant you think they are as to how far they'll drop. But drop they will.

Each to their own like but I'd rather Leicester win the league again than Chelsea, Man City etc

Which statistics would you be using to determine that? I can't fathom it out, they deserved to win the league last year and all meaningful statistics show that

Must be possession and pass completion. Can't think of any others. Like I said above they barely even went behind second half of the season

Thing is though, if it was us we would no doubt be in the same predicament. Not funny at all, I've even mellowed towards Leicester Fan in the last few days. He seems to have accepted they are fucked if the big boys want the players as shit as it is.

Nobody can dispute they were the best team in the league in almost every area. They fully deserved to win it.

They were 5000/1 so before it kicked off so on that basis maybe thats what he was referring to.

But last season is gone, the thread is about 2016/17.

Far too early to say as I have no idea what their squad or the other teams' squads are going to look like. It is fairly obvious they will lost Kante, Vardy and Mahrez and will struggle to replace them but the best players don't always cost the most money. I will however concede it is already going to be a massive ask for them to finish anywhere near as high next season but I'm sure every single Leicester supporter accepts that and isn't really that bothered after the success they had last season

Lost 3 games, second place lost 7.

Were only behind for something stupid like 60 minutes from January till the end of the season. Scored 68 goals (Arsenal scored 65 in second). Stood up in their big games - went to the Etihad and won 3-1 ffs!

They were the best team by miles last season. Winning the league by 10 points shows that aswell.

Totally agree. My point was not to detract from their achievement it was merely to make reference to the fact that they had found a new formula for winning the championship which shunned the statistics of previous champions. Pace & movement over possession and passing.

10th would be a disaster for them, essentially meaning no legacy from their success, because that would put them right back where they were, and probably no more of a force than the likes of us, Stoke or Palace the following season (assuming we all do OK next year, obviously).

Exactly. My OP isn't a pop at the fans. I'm just saying the dream is over but the story might not be.

I'm with you now mate, your original post had me confused

It's a weird mentality that a lot of people have in this country - in that they loathe those who have success for whatever reason.

It does seem to be driven by the media mostly - they would have enjoyed Leicester falling at the final hurdle the season just gone as much (if not more) than them actually winning the thing. Now they can't wait for all their top players to jump ship so the club end up back 'where they belong.'

Winning the league and doubling their income will help them progress in the long term. Any probable drop off next season will only be relative to the high bar they set last season but on the whole they will have progressed massively as a club.

I think they are obviously an example of something greater than the sum of its parts.

Everyone recognises the power of momentum and this was illustrated to the Nth degree with them, but having hit the top there can be nowhere to go but down (reverse momentum).
I predict around 10th next season.

It's not weird, it's the British mentality. Its also very British to like an underdog to do well

I think they will do well. Not impressed if they buy Troy Deeney mind

Totally agree mate

If we don't win it I hope they win it again

I hope they keep all their players.

I'll even put up with the clackers for another season (not another two though)

That's what I'm saying though, if they lose those players they can replace them? Same as Soton did a few years back.
You're not going to find a striker who is as horrible to play against and scores as many as vardy.
You're not going to find a wide forward as magical as mahrez.
You're not going to find a midfielder who does the work of 2 men, the way that kante does.

They can sign good players, I'm sure, the way Southampton signed good players like tadic and pelle a few years ago.

Why?

Why not?! No one had a clue about Mahrez and Kante before this season, and Vardy was average last... Don't get me wrong, I don't think they'll win it, but they have every chance to sign players who fit their system and it works.
