Rafael Benítez

Can you see why, using terms like "one offs", or "a side put together by someone else" might come across as you dismissing their validity?

Well, it's not as good an achievement as going somewhere, building a side and then winning something. On the same basis, Newcastle should go for Roberto Di Matteo if Benitez turns them down, as he's a Champions League winner.

No, I'm not sure when he last took a team through a competition from start to finish. I'm presuming you do?

No, I don't. That's why I'm asking you.

If Di Matteo had the same kind of CV as Benitez, he'd certainly be an option. But he doesn't have the same kind of CV as Rafa Benitez.
I honestly can't believe people are making out he's not a good manager.
He's won La Liga twice with a team that isn't Real Madrid or Barcelona, he's won plenty in his career, be it promotions or cups, he's clearly a good manager.

The last trophy that you can say unequivocally is his, would be the Coppa italia with Napoli in 2014.

Well whenever it was it was good enough for Real Madrid to appoint him

I've actually heard from a good source that the Mags board really don't expect Rafa to stay long term and already have a shortlist drawn up of potential replacements, one of whom is Lee Clark.

If this happens, I will laugh my cock off.

I haven't said he isn't a good manager. Maybe I'm saying he isn't as good as he's made out to be. Could it be he takes over very good teams based on his reputation, wins a cup with said good team, then gets sacked later on when their form tails off? Then he gets appointed boss of another good team, rinse and repeat until he ends up relegating Newcastle.

if they keep him they will be around promotion (in 1form)
I hope I am wrong. and hope it goes tits up ! can't see it, but...... will prey

We are kidding ourselves to think that the Mags will not walk that league next year. The quality is shit and if they keep half their decent players they will be promoted easily.
Just enjoy this time while it lasts and look forward to taking 6 points off them when they return.

Based on what exactly?
Based on the fact that they have some decent players who were hopelessly mismanaged this season , the fact that financially they are miles ahead of the rest of the championship and finally the fact that the teams in the championship are not very good.

Pained to admit it but you're bang on ... They walked the championship last time round with a worse squad than they have now. Would be monumental mess up if they failed to get promotion first time round really.
