Newcastle Manager Situation

TBH I don't rate many of these big name managers, I could do well with 300million to spend, the real managers are the ones that have to scrap around saving a team from relegation every year, working with mediocre players. Benitez will now have a change to prove his worth as a manager but I would take Big Sam any day over him in this situation. I still fancy them for the drop and us to stay up.
Benitez improved the league position of Valencia , his first job. Since then he has left every team he has managed either the same or more normally a worse league position. Do for me.

I don't mind admitting that the change in management has made our chances of stopping up look much harder imo.

The have Villa away which in itself should be a guaranteed 3 points for everyone who plays them. Still haven't given up hope or owt but it would have been much better if McClaren had stayed on.

I have to agree that I would much prefer to have seen McClaren stay in charge BUT (imho), if his successor is Benitez, then the only improvements I can see him making are to tighten them up at the back and retain possession better - none of which will happen overnight.

Don't forget when he was at LFC they tended to play much better in European games, which had a slower tempo than the PL, against similarly minded opponents.

Whenever his team had to fight for results in high tempo games they invariably came out second best when the chips were down!

That's a nonsense theory mind. Top managers deal with completely different management issues than middle ranking ones.

The likes of Guardiola, Mourinho, Ferguson, Ancelloti etc have had to deal with massive egos, serious competition for places and the challenge of keeping players happy, big supporter expectation, increased levels of media scrutiny. They are top managers because they cope with that well.

This is exactly what I think really.

Without a doubt I'd rather have had McClaren stay on, but that was never going to happen all the way through to relegation.

As for Benitez, he has been sacked after less than 20 games in three of his last four jobs. The other one was Napoli, where they dropped down the league for two seasons while he was there, and they have gone back up it since he left.

My main concern is that they have the easiest run-in of the three teams trying to stay up, not Rafael Benitez.

Domestically he was at the helm for valenicas best spell in their history winning them 2 la liga titles and reaching the champions league final twice in a row how anyone on here can say big Sam is a better manager is absolutely beyond me
What people are saying is that Big Sam is more suited to being in a relegation battle, Benitez has never been in that position so it's a bit of a risk.

Typical mag comment though as to be expected.

All this doesn't matter if they respond for the first 2 games. They'll move nicely above us, and stay there. Its the new manager bounce at just the right time for them, wrong time for us.
Why call it new manager bounce? It's sacked manager bounce ;)

It's certainly going to be interesting watching their attitude and work rate when they play Leicester as there's no doubting it will be better than if McClaren was still in charge. I just hope Leicester don't have an off day and the Mags somehow get a flukey win (ala Bournemouth). Ideally we need Leicester to kick them straight back down with a good 3-0 or more win ;)

If they win the Derby, then we're down.
Rubbish, so if they win even though we were by far the better team in the game you would still think we'd be down? It my be harder for us but we are still a decent team. The Mags may still implode after our game and just because the Mags beat us doesn't mean we still can't get results in our harder games. We've have been taking 2 steps forwards and 1 step back recently rather than 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

Or are you just saying that as then if it does happen it doesn't hurt as much or simply trying to jinx it?

If the worst should happen mate, it is because Sunderland had opportunities to stay up and did not take them so it would be no excuses for me ;)

Some right sopping fannies on here. The players are still shit, hopefully they will be marginally less shit but nothing is guaranteed.

No point worrying either way, till the derby is over, im going to enjoy been 4th bottom till at least 2pm tomorrow !

Couple of weeks too late. It won't stop the fighting in the squad or the displeasure from the terraces.

As I said to another reply, I'm clutching at straws by working on reverse psychology ;)

No we aren't. What if we win our game after that and they lose?
On reflection, they've still finished above us when we've won. Might work the other way around, hopefully.
