Despite what someone else posted below yes it was. Fans rioting or charging towards each other inside or outside grounds happened thousands of times with all clubs involved. You just have to read about some of the away trips on here to understand that. On this occasion there was tragic consequences.

You're comparing chalk with cheese. Yes fans fought but that wasn't the only point I was making in my original post.

Liverpool were notorious, even in those mad times, for being out of control in Europe.

Liverpool supporters, at the time, openly boasted about their behaviour.

There were other clubs, such as Ipswich, whose supporters earned nothing but praise.

How many of our clubs were playing in Europe season in, season out in the 1970s/80s in order to form such a reputation? Have you read about Spurs fans in Rotterdam in 1974 and Leeds fans in Paris in the 70s - horrendous stuff both inside and outside the stadium.

Yeah but, as I've said a few times now, Liverpool had a terrible reputation for things other than fighting.

As I've also just said clubs like Spurs, Man Utd, West Ham etc, were involved in various incidents but rarely the looting etc that affected Liverpool.
The birth of the 'casuals' coincided with the clothing brought back to Liverpool from shops they'd looted in Italy etc.

Until Heysel Liverpool weren't particularly notorious for actual violence.

As you say the likes of Leeds, Spurs, Man Utd, were far worse in that respect.

I think i can understand peoples sentiment on this sonetimes though.
its as if the whole country has to stand up and take notice every anniversary of Hillsborough, no matter how much time has passed.
Heysel though seems to go under the radar and be a touchy subject. The complete opposite.
i think i can sometimes understand the sentiment & feeling towards Liverpool based on that

I still have sympathy for those who lost their lives at Hillsborough (and I'm sure you still do too really ?).

But I agree with you about the incidents in subsequent finals where Liverpool fans were 'still' using their notorious steaming tactics to get into grounds, despite what happened at Hillsborough.

Liverpool fans attacked and killed Italian fans and we all got punished for it. So those saying how can you blame "all" Liverpool fans, please tell me why "all" of England was punished for their actions. Liverpool fans were notorious for their actions in Europe for years leading up to Heysal, it wasn't a surprise it was them.

Yeah maybe I was a bit harsh as I do feel for the victims friends and family. As far as the incident goes I have no respect for the fans going on about it when the went on to do something so ridiculous in Istanbul

Always stuck in my throat that Liverpool play the professional victims (I'm not minimising the disaster at Hillsbrough of course), yet accept no responsibility for their part in Heysel.

It's the same with the Bradford fire, that gets very little attention overall.

They sing justice for the 96, why not include the 39 people that died at Heysel? Justice for the 135.

massive tragedy at Bolton with players told to play on for public safety and the ball bouncing off bodies around the edge of the pitch, yet never heard it mentioned by Bolton fans.
