Advocaat offered the job permenatly

He is clearly sorely tempted and he probably has the pull to loosen the purse strings a bit, but it depends on whether his wife is really set on not coming to sunderland. His wife will make the final decision here.

If he didnt want to stay, he wouldnt be talking about Short's intentions, willingness to invest, in fact I would have thought that he would already have ruled out staying.

The longer this goes on the more surprised I would be if he quits at this stage - the more I think he is bargaining with the owner when he is in a very strong bargaining position.

The soundbites translate to "this is a big club with huge potential but lacking investment/commitment at the top level. If you're carrying on that way I'm not staking my reputation on it, if you're ready to make a go of it I'm in"

He'd be great, get us settled for 2 years then pass over the reigns. I like the idea of ending on good terms with Advocaat as all our appointments tend to turn sour but he's in a different league to our previous managers.

Says Shorts aim is to be top 12 consistently, when he first came his intentions was to reach top 6 at the time but it never happened over the years. It's hard to see Short throwing money in with the FFP and the current wage budget as it is. We are going to have to offload quite a few players and that is not going to be easy either. I do think Advocate is the man we need though, lots of experience at top level and know the direction the club should be going plus it looks as though he has the respect of the players.

So you advocate that Advocaat should be given the job? ;)

fact is, you could see a huge difference between arsenal and our lot...they won almost all of the 50/50 balls, they had the confidence to play the short sharp passing game around and in the box, they chased balls most players woul give up on...in short, they had more belief and i think dick is the man to get that kind of belief into this squad, it wont be on the same level but it does not have to be yet, we just have to get it to a level above the rest of the bottom half.
we saw with the scum how much difference the right player can make with cabaye, since he went they basically fell apart, lost direction and confidence...with dicks contacts in the game he could maybe attract a couple of quality players that will make the difference and hopefully not swan song players hitting 30 and over, some we can keep for 3 or 4 years while the club gets settled.

My mate has a ST at Rangers and said they were quality under Dick, but he did spend a canny sum.

I think you're right and he'll want assurances over the budget before he commits to us.

Fingers crossed he stays on.

I'd rather we did that with someone else. We'll only end up treading water and finding ourselves in the same position quite soon down the line. Not particularly bothered like.
Tough one to call this. Short term stability is more likely by appointing dick, appointing anyone else is a gamble based on the managers that would be available, as there doesn't appear to be many obvious options. Either way nothing is guaranteed but for me the risks associated with getting yet another knacker outweigh the short term-ism associated with Advocaat.

Id love him to stay but in all honesty and knowing safe id retire if I was him.

Who needs the hassle of managing safc and inevitably going out with the sack when the club fails to back you in the transfer market.

If you stay dick don't let the board make a mug of you.

I can't believe people wouldn't want him to stay.
He's a top class manager ffs everybody should have known that before he came here and he's simply proven that.
To not keep him would go down as one of the biggest acts of folly this club would ever have done alongside letting a young Brian Clough go.
Who gives a fuck about his age the man has vast knowledge there's no reason why he can't be here for another 2 or 3 years and steady our ship with maybe a younger man working below him.

Bloody well right marra.

Advocaat with SKP as understudy.

No No Thrice NO. He couldnt get away from this club quickly enough.

Clearly this, but the decision is all Dicks.
Hope we have got under his skin and he stays.

DA is a safe pair of hands. Why not get him to take up a two year contract at the club and use his contacts, considerable experience and obvious respect in the game to lay the foundations for us.

The bloke is bigger, better and more qualified to manage us than either Bruce, Poyet, Di Canio, Keane and O'Neill.

Short can trust this man not to authorise stupid signings, not to fall out with the players by his actions and to bring a bit of professionalism back to the club. The players have obviously responded very well to him.

For me, I quite like Big Dick.
