Defoe

Amazes me so many get hung up on money. Whinge when we spend it, whinge when we don't.

Exactly al the "there's no f***ing money, how many times do I have to tell you we'll spend fuck all, Short is taking the piss and milking the club" brigade seem to have gone very quiet

Agree. It's worth talking about but people go overboard. The fact that a high earner in Jozy is going in the opposite direction, means we can and will do this deal. We are breaking no policy in spending. I think, Defoe will be joint highest in AJ.
I have absolutely no problems with that.
Nor me, hopefully he produces the goods

Why can people not understand this ! Both similar length of contracts too. It's obviously been looked at!

Class deal.

I understand it perfectly. Thanks.

It's not like we're getting two players in for the price of one. We're getting one player in, potentially on a three and a half year deal. We'll be paying him £60-70k a week for that length of time. We had this, in slightly lesser terms, with Kevin Davies when O'Neill wanted him. How potent will Defoe be in 12-18 months. He's only going to get worse.

Always plenty money when we fancy wasting a massive stack ;)

kingbant always took this place seriously
The old plank would have laughed it off and posted a hilariously witty reply in an ashington accent. Now it's all embarrassment and serious. Sad times I guess, I preferred old plank.

he brings pace, experience and hopefully goals - his movement and pace will give the team different options. That said I can't see how he fits into a 433.

Interestingly Gus has said before he could play 4-4-2 but doesn't have the players for it. Interesting also that he alluded to Kevin Phillips and Quinn in the week. Defoe is like Phillips with maybe a bit more pace, Wickham is nowhere near Quinn but Fletcher has some of Quinn's intelligence to his play.

got to be worth a bump for all the idiots who didn't stick money on this. Some absolute tools on here. Why i rarely come back.

Games like footy manager and the likes, makes every fucker a football club accountant it seems mate.

Aye, also makes people think dishing out big fees on big names is class. It works both ways.

I'm no financial expert, just giving my views. You're entitled to yours.

Worse than a striker with a 1 in 34 record?

Because if he isn't then he's going to be a good signing.

Good signing but the money involved in this deal sounds absolutely crazy.

We are replacing a donkey with a goal scorer. End of.

If he does sign then we need to change the system. He'll need support and someone to make the space for him to finish.
Seems like a strange transfer for us but if he scores the goals, who cares?
