Defoe

I think it's a panic buy. But it's also a panic buy with some rational thought behind it. Defoe scores goals. That's just a fact. And we get rid of Jozy who doesn't score goals. If Defoe scores the goals and we stay up comfortably then it will have been worth every penny. Simple as that really. I agree that it's looking at the short term a bit too much but we're perilously close to the relegation zone and we have to act and get in a goalscorer. It also gives the fans and team a huge confidence boost to see him sign.
Possibly with an eye on those games we have at home against Burnley, Leicester, WBA, QPR etc, not only winnable games but also must wins. If Defoe signs I see us adopting a more agressive approach in thse games reverting to Poyets containing system away and against top teams at home.

He is a goalscorer and we are struggling for goals. Not that hard to understand.

Thankfully it doesn't matter what it sits like with any of us.

Let's close the message board down then. Let's not bother talking about football at all.

It's not as simple as that though. Is he right for the way we play? Will he get chances to score? If we have this sort of money available for Defoe, couldn't they have found someone else that suits the long term vision that we seem to be working towards? These are all valid questions, and it doesn't mean I'm being negative about the transfer.

I don't think it's unreasonable to not be thrilled about this. He has no obvious role in "the system" and if he loses some of his pace, he'll be hard to move on those wages.

I'm pretty ambivalent. Who knows. See how it plays out. We can't be going back to 5-3-2, can we?

Nice triple negative there

If he is training with us or actually 'on wear side' as reported then some pics will start to appear on twatter no doubt

That's fair enough. I can see both sides of the argument but for some reason it doesn't sit quite right with me.

17 games left
If Defoe scores 2 or 3 goals that get us an extra 6-9 points then it is money well spent

Having him on the training ground should benefit all the other strikers as well.

This sort of money? No transfer fee and with altidore going other way, a difference of about 30k a week? Would Love to see better.

Agreed.

Amazes me so many get hung up on money. Whinge when we spend it, whinge when we don't.

Agree. It's worth talking about but people go overboard. The fact that a high earner in Jozy is going in the opposite direction, means we can and will do this deal. We are breaking no policy in spending. I think, Defoe will be joint highest in AJ.
I have absolutely no problems with that.
