I haven't read the whole thread so I'm assuming this wasn't said although it wouldn't surprise me one bit. Think he is doing an ok job up to now but two things are for certain, he shouldn't be allowed to sign his players and he is a massive gobshite.

Has this even been confirmed ?Interview on MOTD, he seemed to accept a share of responsibility.

Buckley and Vergini have been ok up until todays game, Bridcutt aye I'll give you that.

Yeah but he still signed them though

Personally don't rate any of them but that's just my opinion

Did Poyet not sign Rodwell

This is his team, that's my point, he can blame nobody but himself. Even Pardew hasn't blamed it on this, and there's no way he signs playera

You don't think Vergini and Buckley have been good signings ?

As for Rodwell........we'll see.

Seeing as they're meant to be in it together, I think he's going to have a hard time looking the players in the eye come Monday after trying to partially absolve himself with such comments.

Aye. Radio Newcastle interview. There's a link a few pages back.

TBH I think they're going to have a hard time looking him in the eye. All of this controversy aside, they've been a f***ing embarrassment this weekend.

Yes, it does work both ways but as far as I'm aware none of the players have come out with any remarks trying to shift the blame. Gus needs to learn how to keep his council or he'll have a mutiny on his hands. I imagine the likes of Johnson being benched recently will already be a bit peeved. We desperately need to get back on track against Arsenal.

Not Buckley no. He works hard but I don't rate him no.
Vergini is ok but I can think of numerous ridiculous mistakes that have led directly to goals, and he's only played 20 games max, you can't just dismiss those mistakes

Might be just being senile but I'm sure he said before he would have final say on transfers or he would walk.

Poyet says discussions over potential targets with De Fanti and Angeloni have been positive so far, though he would take a hardline stance if they disagree over new players.

"We talked about a position the other day and considered four players," Poyet said.

"I picked two but one of the others was a definite no. If that player is coming, I won't be here.

"The sporting director exists everywhere in the world. So far, everything is working fine. The connection and communication has been great."

He's telling fibs at some point.

My personal opinion is that it's nothing new at all. He was telling us in no uncertain terms all summer that he wasn't happy with the recruitment. He told us numerous times that we were going to be left short.

Why should he be the only one taking criticism when a squad he told us all plainly wasn't big enough or good enough gets a battering?
Is our squad really that poor? I still think our squad has enough good players to get results. For me, more so than the squad Gus is completely inflexible and instead of adapting to his players a bit, he tries to put round pegs in square holes too often.

there have loads of posts on this board in recent months regarding the roles short and congerton have played in player recruitment over the summer transfer window.

it does not matter how you try to play this, Poyet presumably knew his role when he agreed his contract extension, if that is of head coach, then it is his responsibility to know the strengths and weaknesses of the players at his disposal and to set up his teams accordingly to use his squad the best he can. it is just not good enough to take the plaudits when we get a decent result and then to turn on the players when we get " play badly".

It is poor. Sorry, but there is no pace, no power and no goals. One paced, pedestrian and boring. Poyets tactics don't help at times mind. Although I appreciate his hands are tied.

That a roundabout way of saying he doesn't know what he is doing most of the time, got to agree with that if you are.
As a manager you can't do anything about individual mistakes like the ones we made in the first half but you can do something about it at half time, what he did do was beyond any logic I've got.

That is just a cop out, he can do alot better in all aspects but doesn't seem to much.

I agree. But injuries to giaccherini and Alvarez has severely limited our attacking options.

We haven't improved on last season squad, a squad that struggled so badly. Amazingly since poyet took charge we were about 11th in points accumulated.

I see your point, but I really would be surprised if he signed on for another 2 years if he didn't have reassurances about signings and moving forward. It's very clear we have not strengthened and I can't see why Poyet would have continued after miracle' of last season when he could have easily left with a very good addition to his C.V.
Three full international players not strengthening?

Probably down to the Premier League not really being up to much.
