Colback away?

I'd rather he stayed unless we have plans to replace him with a CL standard player who is guaranteed never to get injured. Some fans seem to assume we will be signing a whole squad at that standard, what a Summer of treats they are in for...

So, if I am reading this right, if he goes he is a very good player that we should have made more of an effort to hold on to, but if he stays he is shite and can only pass sideways and the club needs to show more ambition? What next? Ducking stools?

spot on. The SMB intelligensia will paint it exactly as fits best to run down the club's decision making.

I just read Pop Robson warning in the media Colback going to the Mags? Is this true? What is he thinking? Bad move may thoughts....If going to Everton more pay etc. then Good luck but Newcastle? I will shake my head on that one.

£20k a week is not bad in this day and age. If he leaves we'll need to spend £5-6 million to replace him plus wages so it's a no brainer to try to keep him. I really hope he stays but if he wants a new challenge somewhere else there's not much we can do.
That's why you overpay him simple....

No way he's staying - he would have been signed up months ago. Just let it go and move on - the club's screwed up in not selling him last Summer if he didn't want to stay as at least we would have got a fee but what's done is done and hopefully the club learn a lesson (unfortunately you suspect that they won't)....

I agree.

Tbf when he does play well he looks a very useful player, when he's poor though he's totally anonymous.

Absolutely this. At times its inexcusable really, the contrast between the mags away game and the Norwich one is staggering.

Maybe Colback truly cares and he is a closet Mackem! Well think about it. If he goes to Newcastle and plays well four or five times a season and hardly scores a goal we couldn't ask for any more could we?

nobody should be happy to lose colback, after last years recruitment and this summers exodus we should be desperate to hold onto our decent first team players. for me he is in a different league to bridcutt aswell.

if hes asking for a 3yr contract on 1m a year, its obviously 3m. it would cost more than 3m to replace him what with agents fees and signing on fees. id pay it

20k a week? Then we should keep him at that wage. He might be a squad player but last I looked our squad was mighty thin and getting smaller every week.

I see what you are saying but it might mean we look around for an up and coming midfielder with more drive and passion and capable of chipping in with more goals than Colback who, at times, could be excellent but all too often was anonymous.
