Aha

They are playing Koko (probably sold out now) and then Brixton which feels way too big

Would have done koko gig but off to see Speedy Ortiz instead. Have a listen if you don't know them

The EP was probably better than the album anyway, less filler. They're supposed to be excellent live, worth it alone just to see Jenny Lee Lingberg. ;-) Sadly no hope of them playing up here.

And cheers I'll give them a go tonight. The name rings a bell.

No, Warpaint. A-ha were an 80s band from Norway.

I agree with James re: Warpaint's EP and debut. The EP was better!

The Warpaint album is excellent IMO. I've had it on repeat all week. Musically it sounds very In Rainbows at points, I hope I'm not the only one to hear that...

It's slightly too long at 12 songs but there's hardly a bad song on there.

Just seen that Sky Larkin are playing the Cluny in April, have a listen to their latest album it you haven't yet - Motto.

Agreed about Warpaint. Much better than the debut album.

Mogwai's new album is, well, a Mogwai album. Up to the usual standard!

The Marijuana Deathsquads album is exceptional if you like the idea of one of Bon Iver's mates singing in a squeaky voice over a mix of electronica and the more rocky end of post-rock.

"Love's Crushing Diamond" by Mutual Benefit is my album of the week though. There's a bit of Sufjan in there, maybe Mercury Rev, Perfume Genius, Destroyer etc.

Mogwai hasn't clicked for me yet, they were awesome live as usual mind

This is excellent, cheers!

I've been listening to Mac DeMarco - 2, today. Enjoying it a lot. Worth a try if you liked King Krule's album a few months ago. Lo-fi, stoned music. *

*it came out in 2012 like, but worth a post as it passed me by.

I've been meaning to give Mac deMarco a listen... new stuff for me this week:

The New Mendicants album is excellent - Joe Pernice and Norman Blake co-project so proper pop songs with quality harmonies. A lot better than Norman Blake's thing with Euros Childs from Gorkys, Jonny, which just seemed half-arsed.

The Hidden Cameras new album "AGE" - doesn't strike me as being as good as either The Smell of Our Own or Origin:Orphan, which are their career high points for me but still good.

Dum Dum Girls "Too True" - a bit more mainstream pop than their C86 gone punk of earlier releases.

The new Thee Silver Mt. Zion album is good. There's a lot more vocals than there have been on their previous releases. Reminds me a bit of Arcade Fire if they'd gone off in a darker direction musically after Funeral.

My new album of the week, however, is "Grassed In" by Blank Realm. They're an Aussie psych-pop band whose first album had sort of passed me by - I'd given it a few listens then forgotten it to the extent that I didn't realise I had it. I've given that one ("Go Easy") a fresh listen and it's really good but "Grassed In" is a step up. There's proper songs with tunes that you can sing along to...

This sounds good on first listen.

Discovered MdM through La Blogotheque YouTube channel ( ). It has some excellent live sessions, my favourite channel on YouTube, spent a few hours over the weekend just watching a load of videos.

I'm not currently listening to anything new, but I'm eagerly awaiting the debut release from 'The Slow Show'.

They have a couple of EPs out already, but the album should arrive within the next couple of months. They have a really unique sound which won't appeal to everyone but I think they're going to have a big year. Anyone else heard of them?

Here's a couple of my favourites.

I would have never guessed they were from Manchester!

Named after the song in your avatar I guess, judging by their sound...
