I was in the South Stand and the only time you heard them lot was when they scored. SS didn't stop all night, even at half time. Need to get some sound proofing or something in the north upper, quieten them down :lol:

Depends on your definition of taking the piss mate. If they are just in big numbers on a pub and singing then thats not really a piss take is it? Or if it is then we take the piss most away games. I dont think too many people these days are up for getting stuck into someone for singing. In the corner flag pub there was loads of Man Utd and hardly any Sunderland. They were singing at first, then they started throwing drink. Then more Sunderland lads arrived and and then they got glassed and ran out.[DOUBLEPOST=1389186922][/DOUBLEPOST]

This is exactly what it is. No expert but I would imagine a roof sloping towards the pitch will direct the noise better than one sloping away.

I'm assuming you were singing your heart out in the east stand?

Singing section only really works if other parts of the ground join in.
 
5,000 away fans are always going to make a racket. Since generally speaking all away fans go to bounce around and make noise. For home fans, you have a section who bounce around and make noise. To counter large away followings you need more people around the ground to join in for near 90 minutes of chanting to outsing/chant/noise large away followings.

Accoustics might give away fans an advantage with the roof bouncing sound down into the stadium.

There's another thread about what they were up to in the colliery tavern. In my opinion that's taking the piss and it wouldn't have gone unchecked in years gone by.
I saw what happened against everton in/around the coliery tavern and it's the only unpaid trouble i've been involved in for years.

This. Only time i heard MUFC really were for the 10mins after they scored.
 
I sat/stood in the back row of the east stand for the Bolton cup replay last season, you could hear the SS singing very clearly and considering how few were in there it sounded very loud.

I simply don't believe you couldn't hear the SS at all last night, total bollocks. It was excellent after the goals.

They had been singing "David Moyes' Red n White Army relentlessly for around 10 minutes before they scored. It was getting louder and louder. When they scored they started it up again within a minute or so.
That's exactly what happened.

Edit: in fairness, most of the games I've been to have been awful.

I think that last bit is the key. If were winning more games we'd be singing more songs!
 
Sky must have muted the Sunderland fans out then, because all you could hear was man utd for the whole game.... With sporadic Sunderland in the background...probably be the reverse in the 2nd leg though.

I stood up on my seat and ran through a whole version of "we're geordies we're mental we're off our f**king heads".
Not one f**ker joined in.:):)

From my experience I've found that the South Stand can be extremely loud when you're in it or close by in one of the nearby corners. However you can barely hear it from the other end of the ground.

I remember being in the North Stand for the Mags 1-1 game under O'Neill and I could only hear the Mags singing above or the occasional noise from the North Stand. I don't recall hearing much from the South Stand yet some of my mates were sat there and they said it was loud for most of the game.

I just don't think the sound travels very well from there. Likewise when I was in the South Stand for the Man City games (both last season and this one) I couldn't hear a peep from the City fans. Maybe they were just quiet though.

sc holder and was there again last night (like i have been all cup games). I was next to the lads in the ss who were singing through half time with the flags out.
 
Depends where you are in the ground. I was in the south stand and it was very loud in there, but obviously we couldn't really hear united fans, and i assume they wouldnt be able to hear us well. If youre sat in the north stand or corners you'll hear united fans more, obviously.
