I sit in the North West Corner and the South Stand often sounds quiet. I'm not saying "silent" but quiet - there is a difference. I'm sure that if you sit\stand in the South Stand it probably sounds sounds to you like its the loudest thing going but from the other end of the ground it's a different story.

Perhaps the South Stand might have sounded louder last night if it wasn't half empty and some of the so-called "loyalist football supporters the world has ever had" actually bothered their lazy arses to turn up for cup ties?

The back of the SS was absolutely packed full. Our row had 3/4 people to a seat. Everyone stood and sung.

some of the chants last night had me nearly in tears grimmacing like,

people were singing who the fuck are man utd and then nobody knew the end so it basically went

who the fuck are man unittttted
who the fuck are man unittttttted
who the fuck are man unittedddd
....then silence

people were trying to start some shit american singing S A F C, SAFC SUNLAND! awful

and the man uniteds shite, no more ferguson, absoloutely cringeworthy, didn't even make sense.

To must have been near me cos the fuckwits behind us were singing this shit.
They also thought that "ooooohhh you shit keeeeepaaa" was hilarious and not at all best kept in 1993

Fuckwits singing que sera at half time aswell, are you's for real? I'd probably sing that once were 3 goals clear with 5 minutes to go, not 1-0 up with a quarter of the tie gone.

That's fair enough. There was plenty of empty seats further down though, unless they were vacated by some of the guys sitting 3/4 to a seat further back?

I'm not saying the SS never sing - its sometimes just not as loud as it could\should be when they do.

I've sat in every area of the ground this season (including the SS and excluding the away end) and I can confirm that they've been underwhelming no matter where I've been sat.

Edit: in fairness, most of the games I've been to have been awful.

The lads around me had moved from lower areas of the SS.

I've got no idea what it sounded like on tele/in other areas of the ground, all I know is that it sounded class when involved with it. Apart from the Taylor song it was really good.

Man Utd fans were relentless last night. Our fans were virtually silent. It wouldn't have been like that years ago.

Whatever happened to all the great songs we had? We had anthems, we had Geordie songs we had the f**king lot.
When did we start to lose our way?

Man Utd always update their 'songbook'. Most others dont.[DOUBLEPOST=1389183640][/DOUBLEPOST]

Started by the same two or three who are never there for league games.[DOUBLEPOST=1389183670][/DOUBLEPOST]
Not a fan of that "things can only get better" either. Saying that, it's better than that awful Bob Marley chant that was doing the rounds last season.

Both tremendous IMO

Are you pulling my leg??
I was in the East Stand:))) and Man Utd sang throughout the whole game with barely a break. They completely and totally out sang Sunderland the whole game from start to finish.
I heard a few muffled chants from the South Stand and only realised they were singing at first because some people had their arms out. Steven Taylor song was one and possibly Wise Men Say was the other.

This wouldn't have happened years ago, and certainly not at Roker Park. We've become a soft touch at home, outside the ground and inside the ground.

Apologies, i also heard a subdued chant of things can only get better also.

Like it or not Man Utd will never be touched for continuous singing. They are obsessed with it (always going on about how they have the biggest number of chants, most original etc.) Its like a badge of honour to them. And you also see kids, blokes, women and OAPs all joining in, whether it be an old song or new. Its how they get new songs off the ground within a week.

Wrong chant marra (we actually have 3 for him - cringe)

Yea, I realised that. Hard to keep tabs on them all...

It's decidedly odd. Most people follow the "if they're abusing me it's because I'm doing something right", which is usually close to the truth. In the case of Steven Taylor though, he's actually shite. Why is he getting so much attention?

Let's wait and see what other Sunderland fans say who were around the ground.
I'm telling you as a Sunderland fan who was sitting almost half way between the two exactly what i saw and heard.

I even edited my post to include the other song i heard which was "things can only get better", maybe close or round 3/4's through the game. It wasn't particularly loud but i had forgotten about that one.

At half dad my dad text "where's all our chanters gone? sounds like they are at home". I text back saying "Well you're at home instead of being here ya daft sod" and he text back "Fuck off"[DOUBLEPOST=1389184070][/DOUBLEPOST]
Our "songbook" could and should be up there with just about any team.

It can be. Like Peterborough away. Where all the old songs were sang, al the new chants and shit loads of chants for ex players. I reckon there must have been at least 60 different songs. Was tremendous. Shame its hardly ever like that. We have too many who moan about songs and who only join in with their faves.[DOUBLEPOST=1389184163][/DOUBLEPOST]
Let's wait and see what others say. For 90% of the time it was like being in a library in 3 parts of the ground.

It sounds like you think it was loud in the South Stand. I can't comment on that because i wasn't there.
I can comment on being half way between the two sets of fans and the difference in noise levels was embarrassing. I admit i did see some arms waving the odd time in the SS so assumed they were singing but couldn't make out any tune or words.
Our support has lost it's way at home.

That applied to the Man Utd lot as well far a lot of the game from the South Stand. You could see them all clapping and bouncing about but not much in terms of noise.

It means you're talking shite, carry on.

Not what others from around the ground have said, or another who watched on television.
From where i was the contrast was staggering.

I'd fully expect Man Utd fans in the NSU to say they never heard Sunderland once. I'm not a MU fan and i wasn't in the NSU.
Our fans have lost their way inside and outside the ground. Away fans wouldn't have dared to take the piss in/around bars in years gone by.
It hurts to say but we a re a f**king soft touch at home.

Fuck sake man because you can hear something that is louder than another thing doesn't mean the quieter of the two is silent.

Give it up mate you're talking utter shite.

They've been shite this season mind. I've commented on a few match threads involving Man Utd saying they were quiet. Mind they arent winning all the time now like
