212 for 7 against a chairman's XI, useless bunch of wankers!

As previously mentioned, this team needs more than a couple of changes!

Trott is a huge hole in the side for me. Now is the time for Bell to really kick on IMO (yes he had a great summer but I want to see him push on to match the best in the world) and for KP to get his finger out when it matters. Cook also needs to show a bit for me. Root has huge potential, and Carberry despite his age is new to test cricket so now really is the time for the experienced heads to stick their hands up for their country and make some hundreds.

All of the media seem to be making a big thing about Ballance scoring 50 in a low score, the subliminal message being that he's pushed himself to the front of the queue to replace Trott.

Am I being biased, or does Stokes' 30odd not do his chances the world of good as well, particularly in light of the fact that Stokes also happens to bowl at 90mph? Adelaide is one of the flattest pitches in world cricket and we are behind in the series, surely we should be picking our team first and foremost to take 20 wickets?! If England get skittled on that Adelaide deck it won't be because we didn't pick six out-and-out batsmen, it will be because the batsman we picked did not perform.[DOUBLEPOST=1385739433][/DOUBLEPOST]Edit - just realised Stokes got 28, the point still stands though!!

I think the media often select the team these days!! To be fair if they do want a Trott replacement then Ballance is the one of the 3 I would go with. Agree though that Stokes opens up many more options with the make-up of the side. It may come down to Prior's lack of form as if he was making runs regularly I think they would gladly go with the all rounder rather than the all out batsman.

For me I would actually like to see us play 2 spinners with Stokes being the 3rd seamer batting at 6. If they do play 3 out and out seamers I just hope its Finn and not Tremlett too. Tremlett looked awfully average the last game and although Finn can go for a few, he will always pick up wickets.

The more I think about it the more Stokes has to play. We are 1-0 down, about to play on the flattest of flat pitches and we go to Perth next. England need to take 20 wickets and win at Adelaide or we could well find ourselves 2-0 down with 2 to play after Perth. Play either 4 quicks and Swann or 3 quicks with 2 spinners.

We can go in with 5 batsmen, a keeper who is out of nick but is still a class bat, two genuine allrounders in Stokes and Bresnan, two very capable lower order batsmen in Broad and Swann and even Anderson who is no pushover. If that's not enough batting on an Adelaide pitch we might as well pack up and come home now.

Yeah this

I'd gamble on Stokes for this match due to pitch. Ballance is very calm and collected like Trott, wouldn't be surprised if he is a long term pick

Some of the squad picks have been very poor like, Tremlett and Rankin especially. Not good enough. Onions should of played till at least Bresnan was fit

Not convinced Bairstow is good enough myself and Carberry is questionable , he plays second division cricket and had a history of not scoring big scores.

Carberry is a ridiculous selection, 33 year old, 2nd division journeyman and done little of note to warrant a test place. He was utter cack in the tour matches against Australia in the summer. He is only there to offset Cook's slow run making. last summer Joe Root was being touted as our long term number 2, now it seems he is too green to face the first new ball.

There are clearly some players whose 'faces do not fit' eg Compton, James Taylor and Onions and their omission has weakened the squad.

I agree with this, unfortunately cricket still stinks of the old boys club

Ronan O'Connell of the Roar calls it spot on back in September.

I agree that Onions should be over there and Tremlett shouldn't. It's inevitable though to think that the bloke who isn't there would have made a huge difference. We bowled them out on a flat deck for under 300 and I don't really think Onions on pitches where there's bounce which negates LBW and where the new ball window is really short helps GO a great deal. He deserves to be there and it makes sense for him to be there for cover for Jimmy but I don't think we should kid ourselves that he would be pulling up any trees.

We let them get 400+ in the second innings. And were our 136 and 179 were down to poor batting alone? Or was there something in the pitch for the right bowler?

Fair play I doubt whether Onions would have turned defeat into victory but I do know he has the capacity to bowl longer and tidier without blowing out of his arse like Tremlett, or shipping runs like Finn, which might have allowed us to use Broad in shorter, more aggressive spells and sustain pressure. His omission is pretty farsical by anyone's reckoning.

And add this to no Compton or Taylor, taking Trott when his head wasn't right and we have a bit of a balls up of a selection!

I agree, someone who can bowl allows Broad to rough them up

He certainly couldn't have done any worse - I have to say so on flat pitches in the NZ warm up games he seemed like easy paced cannon fodder, if there's the slightest bit of nip in the pitch GO will find it but I think at his pace with no seam movement he would have went the journey in that second innings when they could play with freedom on a flat pitch.

We will of course never know and I agree that they have made errors in the squad selection.

The flat tracker at Adelaide will be a real test of how shit our batting has become.

Before the series I fancied us at Adelaide. My logic being the pitch takes the edge off their bowling and their batting line up can fail on any surface. Not as confident now like

I think Cook, Bell and KP should hopefully perform, not confident in any of the rest tbh.
