I'd take Tremlett out and put Finn in. Other than that they should be given a chance to redeem themselves. It would have been interesting too see what Stokes would have done if someone had threatened to break his face. Given his short fuse there is a clear chance that blood would have been spilled after the game off the field.

Anderson and Swann out mental :) Brisbane and Perth aren't ideal for Jimmy because LBW is almost out of the equation so it makes it difficult for him to set players up but both should play at Adelaide which traditionally isn't as bouncy and takes spin later on in the game. For me its Finn or Rankin for Tremlett who I think is the weakest bowler we have.

Tremlett took 4wickets in total but Boycs said he has less pace compared to the bowler of 3 years ago.I think we need 4 out and out pace bowlers bowling in short bursts and to allow this I d let Root and KP share the spin duty workload.

Finn will go all around the park, rankin is shit.

Tremlett isn't the player he was 2 years ago but ended up with better figures than jimmy.

Going by your analysis we have lost the Ashes. We are goosed.

Adelaide usually takes spin, and has been doing so again this season down there, although it will be another drop in pitch. So Swann stays in for me.

Cook
Carberry
Trott
KP
Bell
Root. (I'd like to find a place for Stokes, as he would definitely NOT be intimidated, but Root can't be discarded yet, hopefully not for a long time either)
Prior, who needs a score, but is being put under no pressure by having no real reserve keeper.
Broard
Swann
Finn
Anderson.

The bowlers need some help here. We do not score 400 any more, and without it we are asking too much of a good attack.

That line of argument is pretty shit. Finn has ended up with better figures than Jimmy plenty who usually ends up with better figures than them all because he is world class. I do take your argument that the 3rd seamer role is a problem, Finn does leak runs but I tell you one thing Rankin is far from shit, he is though unproven and it would be a gamble. To me an 80mph Tremlett definitely isn't the answer and would be the last of them that I would pick.

We need Bresnan fit - economical, bowls long spell and takes important wickets. He's not great but he is the best bet.
I do also accept your point that in this match the bowlers weren't really the big issue.

I don't understand why we brought rankin, finn and tremlett. All pretty much the same bowler, you need someone who can ball stump to stump like siddle and why bunny wasn't selected is baffling considering bres isn't fit.

Rankin may not be shite but he's certainly not test level. Finn is far too costly and the aussies would get right into him. Haddin loved him in the summer.

We've shot ourselves in the foot with our selection. If our batters were up to much then we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.

Trott obviously out now, so maybe Root moving to 3 and Stokes at 6?

Bell surely?

It'd be madness to move Root too much for me.

Cook
Carberry
Bell
KP
Root
Stokes
Prior
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Tremlett

or

Bairstow or Ballance in at number 6.

Chance of Prior up to 6, Bresnan coming in at 7?

I'd go with
Cook
Carberry
Bell
Pietersen
Root
Prior
Stokes
Swann
Broad
Tremlett
Anderson

Bresnan in for tremlett if fit

Cook
Carberry
Root
KP
Bell
Ballance
Prior
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Tremlett

Would be my team

Drop Swann? You taking the piss? If a test match goes 4 and 5 days a world class spinner is a huge asset every time.

Just realised you also said you would drop Anderson too.

The bottom line is the Aussies were braver than us. They picked a player who goes for runs but gets wickets, he picked up 9. We picked Tremlett over Finn, an fairly economic trundler over a slightly wayward but fast bowling wicket taker with a bit of intimidation. I'm not saying the result would have been different as the batsmen were gash but we simply can't pick Tremlett again unless there's injuries. Bowling high 70's / low 80 MPH just doesn't cut it on these pitches.

All this because of one test. We won a series on these pitches last time without express pace. The bowlers are not the problem.
