I would go

Cook
Carberry
Bell
Pietersen
Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Rankin

I wouldn't have taken Bairstow as keeper, but Prior isn't justifying his place now, and with Trott out we need to lengthen the batting

I don't like the final bowling option, with Rankin but I don't think you can play Finn and Tremlett doesn't look a great option

Rankin is toilet. Rather have Bresnan in.

OK for what its worth

Cook
Compton (replace Trott)
Bell
KP
Root
Bairstow wk
Bresnan
Stokes
Broad
Swann
Anderson

I think he maybe onto something. Pick the three quicks and bowl body line same as the Aussies did at the Gabba.
.

But are Tremlett and Rankin really much quicker than Anderson? A couple of mph, maybe, but they are nowhere near as skillful

The size of Tremlett he should be ripping off the Australian non strikers head on his way down, and sending that through at 93mph....but he's just a got big soft lump.

6'7" built like a brick shithouse and bowls 77mph bouncers.

No they're not unfortunately! I was just being tongue in cheek about the Aussie win at all cost Bodyline tactics - let's face it folks probably 12+ out of our 20 wickets were catches on or behind square leg. That's a much higher percentage than Larwood and Voce took.

Din't knar about you lot like but I'm clamming for this Test to start. Fuck graft, 3 tedious shifts to negotiate afore the action can begin!

Bresnan in for Rankin, Stokes for Trott with Bell moved up to 3. Bairstow is a better bat and better w/k than Prior but there's no way they'll drop Prior.

I had to read that back three or four times to check you'd actually typed it. Bairstow is terrible.

You know nowt about cricket then.

I watch a lot and played a lot so I think I know a little bit. Prior has averaged <15 with the bat without a half century in his last 7 Tests and doesn't consistently take the ball cleanly. Bairstow is young and will get better ,even now he has a better 1st class average than Prior. Just think Prior is on the wane as his recent stats show. Just an opinion-I'd be delighted if he proves me wrong wih a ton at Adelaide.

Gooch hinting that Root moves up to 3 and that Bresnan is fit and will play, all makes sense I suppose.

I reckon they'll go with Ballance at 6.

There's one player no one has mentioned who I think must be in the mix to play. Monty Panesar. England may well go with 2 spinners in Adelaide.
Don't be too surprised if they do.
