Short Is Failing Us

Nobody is denying he hasn't tried, and spent a shedload of cash doing so. But he has taken us nowhere that Quinny and Drummaville didn't get us to first. Basically, he has let himself, and us, down.

But he's kept us there which Drummaville couldn't have done. People can mention Norwich or Swansea as examples of teams who have overtaken us, but look at the list of teams below who have been relegated when we have stayed in this league. It's our longest run in the top flight in over 50 years and is an achievement in itself.

Wigan
Reading
QPR
Bolton
Blackburn
Wolves
Birmingham
Blackpool
West Ham
Burnley
Hull
Portsmouth
Newcastle
Middlesbrough
West Brom

Short has made mistakes, but he has done a hell of a lot for this club and maybe some of our fans need to open their eyes and realise that. It seems some have bought into the culture of wanting everything now and expect Short to fund the club out of his own pocket.

It will matter for nothing if we go down.

Totally agree. Some of our fans will never be satisfied until we've won league

It will matter for nothing if we go down.

But until we go down, it matters for everything. If we stay up, he has done well by us again.

Even if we go down, we would be in a better position than ever before to come straight back up, we have a better reputation than we have had for years and we have gone a long way to shake off the yo-yo tag, so we wouldn't be considered as big a risk to players when we come back up. So it probably does matter for quite a lot.

We won't I'm convinced of it. I have seen enough in the last two games to realise that there are definitely 3 worse teams than us in this league whatever position we currently occupy. There have been other things at play with our club and team.

Based on what?

We haven't won a game in the league since April. Long winless runs are not uncommon either.

We are bottom of the league with one point and yet our attendance was in excess of 45k on Saturday.

It's simply not good enough. Had we held onto our better players and brought in some quality we wouldn't be in this mess.[DOUBLEPOST=1381515480][/DOUBLEPOST]

Rubbish. If we scrape survival that is satisfactory? Yes now! It'll be seen as success after our horrendous start following a shocking season last season.

This season it is absolutely satisfactory. Given the state of our club over the last 50 years, we would have been overjoyed at 7 consecutive years in the top flight, now some moan because Swansea got into Europe but we didn't. It's not as simple as that. Some teams will jump above us and some will fall below us, that's football. If we stay in the league we have a chance to get it right next season. I want to see us progress, but Short has put his money into the club, made what seemed like good decisions on the whole that just haven't gone quite right.

You Sir are an idiot

If he doesn't appoint a good manager/head coach then I think it's time for him to call it a day and get out.

He's sold Mignolet and Sessegnon and failed to replace them.

We needed more quality and we've brought in bargain basement players.

There is no communication and there appears to be no direction. Commercially we may be doing well but that will count for very little if we are relegated which is looking inevitable.

Very disappointing.

Before committing suicide, you might want to hang around and see how things develop.......

Made good decisions that didn't go right?

That means they were poor decisions...[DOUBLEPOST=1381524921][/DOUBLEPOST]

I'll go regardless but I can still give my opinion. Just because you disagree doesn't mean your opinion is more valid than mine.

I said what seemed like good decisions, i.e. the appointment of O'Neill. If you're going to slate him in hindsight for decisions like that then it's not even worth discussing.

But many didn't want Bruce. He was also quick to fall out with Keane and with Sbragia as interim manager we very nearly went down.

Di Canio was an odd appointment but he didn't even give him time to prove himself.

He's sold our best players, we've struggled to replace them. We've sold players cheaply and overspent on others.

Most were happy with Bruce and he did well for us. No-one had a problem with him questioning Keane at the time.

Di Canio was his biggest error but he did well to realise and sack him early enough to give us time to save our season.

He bought all of our best players as well, and when we had to sell he went and bought more again. He's put his hand into his own pocket to do this.

Shorts an easy target but for me he has done little wrong.
He appointed an experienced manager in Bruce. I was not happy with the appointment but I can see why he did it. He sacked Bruce when he had to.
He appointed MON who at the time virtually all of us thought was a good idea, I did. It never worked out but I cant blame Short for that, I think MONs best days were behind him.
He rolled the dice on PDC, which is what successful businessmen do. It was a risk that paid off as it kept us in the prem, but ultimately PDC had aspects to his management style that were not acceptable so I can see why he had to go.
Now its Gus, who I think may well turn out to be a great manager for us.
Nowt wrong there as far as I can see.
On the money front, from what I understand Short has propped up the club with his own money so again nowt wrong there for me.
I think Short knows there needs to be big changes from the Bruce, O Neill era in playing staff and provided Gus does reasonably well ES will invest heavily in January.

I don't think he's an easy target at all. People think because he's invested money then he's not accountable for the decisions he's made.

I just think this summer in particular has been a shocker. Losing Mignolet for only 9m. Sessegnon sold for 6m! Then bringing in little quality in return. We needed to keep our better players and bring in more quality. We failed to do either.
