Half way stage for the new leagues

The Felling lads always seem good crack to me.

Definitely agree with that like. Thought the game was played in good spirits. Can't really comment on decisions that didn't go their way during our innings mind cause I wasn't at the crease to hear/see anything untoward.

Nothing in it , it was no doubt my comments on facebook which I deleted Sunday morning when I sobered up, nothing against any of the Brandon lads who beat us fairly comprehensively on the day. In truth I should have known better than to comment in the first place .
Lads just feel we've not had much go our way so far, its easily turned around .

I am not sure about the earlier comments about umpires being much better though. Had a few good 'uns but still get your fair share who don't know what day it is, never mind whether the batter has nicked one.

You need to spend less time on Facebook/the SMB/telly shopping/drinking and get your lads in the nets by the sound of it, now that you're in a position of responsibility. I'm guessing you aren't one of the top four mentioned earlier on this thread that can bat!!

Shocked but not surprised by Esh Winning.

Top of the DCL and unbeaten. All the good money was on Bournmoor to walk that league.

Just noticed that Esh lost their first game of the season against Castle Eden

We'll just go back to being boring, bat second and grind out a few results. My top four arnt too bad thats true enough I feel for the number five who's been our leading run scorer for the past 3 seasons. As said previously dont worry about us.

What's the craic with Esh Winning - good seam attack? good spinner? good batting? all of the above?!?!

Didn't know a lot about any of the former DCL teams going into the season but from what I was told, they weren't among the favourites to be up amongst it at the top.

Get yourself up the top of the order and shut the shop. Back when you could bat I learned the art of blocking from you - it must still be in there somewhere!!

I think Whitburn will win both the First and Second Team leagues in the new NEPL format, I think they'll compete well if they go up too so good luck to them.

Having played Felling yesterday - they had very little batting past number 4 mind, so without meaning to sound harsh (could just have been a bad day at the office) they look a poor side.

Apart from that, I'm fully enjoying the new NEPL and have already played a higher standard of cricket by far to that of tge old County League. All of that against some very good teams at some very good little grounds too. All positive IMO. Standard of umpiring has also been a vast improvement.

Can't speak of the Durham League but I reckon that will be a very decent and competitive league once the divide takes place for next season.

Tend to agree, Deffinatley the best 2nd team we have came up against this year (Washington) so far and we are going to have to have a storming back end of the season to catch up.

However we massively underperformed on Saturday, our batting display was abysmal and we also had a few missing (no excuse like) so you never know what might happen.

We somehow lost to Eppleton on the first game of the season and drew with Boldon having had them 9 down. We then also lost the Whitburn game on Saturday which has left us 3rd but quite a way behind, we'll catch them though. 8-)

If you're the Felling skip don't you have a mag tattoo on your arm??

Somehow lost to Eppleton

We pissed it ;-)

Let's see what Saturday brings :-)

Well yesterday's results in Premier League Division 1 have produced a good end to the season with five tems now all with in one win of each other at the top, the top four being covered by only eight points. Should make for some really good cricket in the run in!

Blimey, i see Silky won their first game on Saturday:shock: Sad it has taken this long.
I actually popped into the club on Saturday afternoon and the seconds were playing. It looked like both them and Philli were struggling to put teams out. Good opportunity for youngins to come through, but a bit sad that local cricket has come to this. It seems on the decline:cry:

It's been on the decline for a fair few years, only the elite clubs are thriving in the current climate,
Takes a lot of hard work to keep clubs running especially when you don't have a thriving bar, also you will find most the clubs struggling to field teams are the ones who have survived by paying average players far too much money to play for them, or spent vast amounts on players to win them leagues 10 years ago.

If that money had been invested in junior set ups then such teams would have progressed, sad to see and is going to take alot of effort from some dedicated people to drag some clubs back to a good standard.

I should know, I'm playing for one!

Watch quite a bit of league cricket, particularly at burnmoor cos its just around the corner . Some of the oppo they have played this year has been pitiful IMO. Still some big clubs in the Durham league but not many of them punching their weight

Also some intersesting comments from their skipper about motivating his players.

Not sure how much difference there is between bottom 7 or 8 and some of the NEDL div 1 sides

Burnmoor can take a run and jump - if they rate themselves so highly they should have applied for NEPL2 when they had the chance. They chose to come into the Durham League instead and be a big fish in a small pond, so they can't now complain about it. Their pro is a young kid who is already a bona-fide first class bowler - why on earth does he want to come and waste half a year in the third tier of Durham club cricket? What's he getting out of it? Surely he should be playing NEPL1.

Agree with all of that. Yet to see a really good game there this year.

Anyone know whats happening with the NEPL2 next year. I know they were keen to fill the remaining 2 slots to make it a 12 team league. Heard rumours of Philadelphia and Burnmoor being keen but not heard much concrete info.

The new NEPL2 has been a pleasure to play in this season, and I reckon with a full quota of clubs it will only get better.

As far as I understand it -

2014 - the Durham league splits - top 14 into Div 1 bottom 12 into Div 2. Top 2 teams in Div 1 promoted to NEPL 2 for 2015

2015 - 12 teams in all three divisions, promotion/relegation starts.

Yes that my understanding as well
