Half way stage for the new leagues

So this is the half way stage of the season and the NEPL second tier andthe new Durham League are settlling down, so what do peoplething of them so far?

For my piont of view I think that Washington have settlled in well with a young team, yesterday we had seven players 22 or younger in the firsts and got ainning draw against Whitburn who are still unbeaten.

I am supprised to see Felling with so few points.

All in all the new league is working well all of the clubs seem to be enjoying playing each other and all have made a statement by being there.

What are the thoughts of others in the Durham League?

I think Whitburn will win both the First and Second Team leagues in the new NEPL format, I think they'll compete well if they go up too so good luck to them.

Having played Felling yesterday - they had very little batting past number 4 mind, so without meaning to sound harsh (could just have been a bad day at the office) they look a poor side.

Apart from that, I'm fully enjoying the new NEPL and have already played a higher standard of cricket by far to that of tge old County League. All of that against some very good teams at some very good little grounds too. All positive IMO. Standard of umpiring has also been a vast improvement.

Can't speak of the Durham League but I reckon that will be a very decent and competitive league once the divide takes place for next season.

I think it's been a decent start. Good standard and nice to come up against new opposition. I don't think the standard is a huge step up but I have found that there is a lot more strength in depth. The old leagues seemed to be full off 200 run or 10 wicket wins which although they will happen, are not as frequent.

One thought. Three of the teams, Washington, Brandon, Willington,were all playing in the North East Durham League.

All three owe a lot to that league for being there in tough times and allowing them to rebiuld and develop into the clubs they are today.

So Thank you NEDCL!

Seaham in the mid 90s was a hole and they struggled at all levels in the DSL. Big credit to the lads there as I hear nothing but good things about them now.

Indeed. Bottom every year from 1sts down to 13s in those days. Always found them a nice bunch so glad to see that they have pulled together and improved things

We'll see you at Brandon later in the season its the same side thats finished 4th twice and 2nd in the DSL in the last 5 seasons. Don't worry about us.

I remember playing there for my school and it was a proper shit hole. By all accounts they've rebuilt from the ground up and are now reaping the benefits. tbh its good to see that a lot of clubs have cottoned on and are putting proper foundations in at their clubs and making sure they are run properly.

I heard a few rumours the Felling Brandon game at the weekend got a bit tasty!! Could this be the first big rivalry in the new league?
 
I suppose there was one incident where they were convinced they had a caught behind but it wasn't given. There was a noise, could've been pad. I couldn't really judge either way.
