Do we know if there will be any criteria that has to be met? I know that to get in the league clubs had to have certain facilities and covers. Would this still be a requirement for a side to be promoted?
Also do sides have to move up?
Not sure about criteria but i'm sure some will have to be met. The DCL should be looking at this objectively in the sense that anyone promoted should meet the minimum requirement of a team that is alrady in the league or enforce a rule that all teams should bring their facilities up to scratch by 'x' date.... You can't penalise a team from the NEDCL for not having 'y' when there could be teams already in the league that don't have 'y'.
Another thing for me personally ist that i think there sould be compulsory promotion and relegation beteween all leagues in the north east... none of this ''we dont want to go up malarkey''. Teams that win their respective leagues all the way to NEPL should be wanting to be ambitious and gain promotion, not stand still and look to win a league every year... That is the only way the system will work and I'm sure looking at it that is the way it is set up...
Fully agree mate but I was thinking more about promotion to the NEPL2. The sides in there had to meet a load of criteria to get in around changing facilities, covers etc. and are constantly being assessed for quality of pitches. I am guessing the side(s) to be promoted would be forced to meet this criteria to get into the league.
This would also be huge in stopping clubs spending a fortune on players to make it to that level and completely neglecting the club's facilities as a lot seem to do these days!
That is absolutley key to the longevity and sustainability of local cricket in my eyes! And by demoting clubs to lower leagues or severe points deducions is the only way i think the situation will improve and subsequently facilities will get better.
In terms of NEPL2 qualification i think the same standards should apply to be honest. The NEPL seem to have got it right in terms of standards and other leagues should follow suit. Believe me there is enough funding and grants out there for clubs to look to make improvements, I'm not talking about building new clubhouses with huge grants, even small ones like plastering and seating as some have mentioned on other threads...
I look at washinton where they have come from and they should be a blueprint for hard work and dedication to buidling infrastructure off the field. When they first came into the coast league it wasnt the greatest wicket or ground but year or year without fail they have built the club up for success and are now reaping the benefits in NEPL2.
Looking at Esh Winning who have a cracking side by all accounts, would they want to go up in 2 years time if they won it? Possibly they would, would their current facilities allow it? Probably not... So why not start now and have a plan to develop? I use Esh as an example but there are severalo clubs that could fall into that category...
