Ashes 2nd test thread - Lords

The longer we bat, the less time Australia have to survive.

Yes we are still overwhelmingly likely to win either way, but you never know, we might find it difficult to bowl them out and we are using up overs.

I really don't see the point.

Let's face it, if Root was out last night would we have batted on? Arguably not so these overs are playing for Root's career stats, not us winning. Any runs we score here are pointless in the context of the game.

Yes. Prior was padded up in the dressing room.

And a double Ashes hundred at Lords is hardly a 'bauble'.

I remember when we declared once v the Aussies with Hick (IIRC) not out in the 90s because we wanted to get bowling.

We are just waiting time. It probably won't matter but why take the chance?

And Prior was padded up last night (I assume that's what you mean) - no guarantee he'd have come out this morning to bat again if it was him and Bairstow, in fact I doubt very much they would.

England are currently batting solely for Joe Root.

And if we're talking stats, batting on hurts Bairstow and Root's average because instead of getting not outs, they're now both out.

Well I suspect you're wrong. And I say this because we batters padded up and none of the players had their fielding whites on.

And with that, they're off. It's almost as if this was the plan all along........

Don't think he'd be missed in this series. Partly because he's not looked anything like as good as he used to but mainly because unless this Australia team improves markedly we only need two batsmen to get in to post a competitive total.

He has been into bat early after openers failed, and therefore is up against the new ball. And he has been on the end of at least one fantastic ball. Yes, his last innings he played a loose shot, but that's not a crime. Lets also not forget he has also been out injured for a decent period of time. The guy is one of the true world class players we have, make no mistake about that.

Anyway, I suspect the time between this test and the next will easily be enough for him to be fit.

To be fair, I haven't noticed anyone on here in particular who's never posted on the cricket threads before, aside from that jaaarow character who just seems to be on a windup.
