I agree but we won't know until they bat. I think both sides will be fairly pleased (Aussies having been made to bowl, England having got off to such a poor start).

It wounldn't. Root is an opener and Compton isnt good enough.
You can't say it clearly hit the bat first. It may have done, but there was nothing conclusive. I thought it looked like it hit both at the same time, which simply isn't enough evidence to overturn the umpire's decision. Had the umpire given him not out, there also wouldn't have been enough evidence to overturn that decision had the convicts reviewed it. The equivalent of hawkeye showing the ball as clipping the stump where a review can never get the decision overturned.
