Why stop the game when it's still light enough to play?
Should play until bad light stops the game IMO.

You could put 5,000 rpm on a ball and it not turn an inch, or you could put 2,000 on one and it could turn square. Much more to do with the pitch than the revs.
Compton for Bell? Compton at 5
England's day, just about.
They will be too tired to play again in the morning
Erm, yes they do.![]()
But if conditions are exactly the same for two bowlers, and they pitch the ball in exactly the same spot the spinner bowling with the most revs has more chance of turning the ball.
And what's the odds of that?
The little protractor thing on Hawkeye to tell you how many degrees a ball has turned is much more useful.
I'm not defending the feature (its shite) but revs do make a difference, hence they try to put as many on the ball as possible.
Even when they're not making up overs lost due to rain/bad light? I can rarely remember more than 90 overs in a day.
Well yeah, which is why I think it would be good to use sparingly. But this stupid graphic popping up every ball is shite. It's like something on a Playstation game, for how you want your spinner to turn the ball![]()
We really need Broad back tomo.
Id have to agree. Although having lost the toss the Aussies will be more than happy at present, especially if Broad fails to recover.

With Root opening and Bairstow in, our batting is far from as solid as people think it is. All it takes is failures from Cook and KP, then the Aussies to figure out Trott cannot resist flashing at a wide delivery and we arrive at 200ish all out.
This series could well be a bowl off, and very tight. Hope I'm wrong![]()

The Mail reckons Broad will bowl this morning. Fingers crossed (mine, not his).

Bairstow might be a bit light, but Root is the man and has looked Test class since he walked into the side. If I was worried about a bat it would be Bell, who seems to have regressed to pre-2010 levels.
And out of Cook, KP and Trott I bet Trott is the one out nicking a wide one the least of the three. If anything, Trott is known for being an on-side player.
All in all, very strange post.
Agree with this. I think Bairstow is worth persevering with - not a great deal to replace him with. Not convinced by Taylor, and bringing Compton back would mess around with the batting order....
