Second Test - England v NZ

All that counts. 8-)
If we'd set 401 to win we'd have lost by 5 wickets.

This.

Waugh's Australia would have declared ages ago, or enforced the follow on. We are too cautious at times.
Wasn't it Waugh's Australia that started the fad for not enforcing the follow on and setting impossible targets though? However over there you were almost guaranteed 5 full days play.

I'd have put NZ back in.

The West Indies, Australia, South Africa, India, even NZ themselves would have enforced the follow on and gone for the win without any doubt in the same circumstances.
Windies batted again in when they had a 250 1st innings lead.

Suspect that's probably an exception to the rule though. They were also a good enough side to win from pretty much any position at that point of course.

We wouldve been into the tail now if we hadnt batted for so long.

Not sure about that. Would had been further along certainly but NZ gave themselves out cheaply last time, would have hoped for their sake they would have been better this time round.

39 overs possible tonight. That might be all we get as well

As everybody seems to be on this thread just thought I would say well done to the Durham lads 273 is a good score, should be enough to win I think

Doesn't look like tomo is going to be a complete wash out mind.

Trott was throwing a massive sulk during his interview, saying people criticising him for slow play were "the same ones who think they could do better and move the game along easily, it's called Test cricket for a reason". Also that you shouldn't think about the weather forecast when you're deciding when to declare. Boycott then said he was talking twaddle

We batted for at least an hour too long, and Cooks field placings are very negative

Couldn't believe we only had 1 slip at times today - the Aussie approach would have been 4 slips and 2 gullys when setting a target like this. Cook could learn a thing or two about attacking from McCullum
