Essex Boy (on here) hates Anderson for some reason and has looked for any opportunity to slate him. He started a thread saying we would never be number 1 in the world with him in our attack (guess what happened). He also said he would get splattered out in the sub cont and Australia (guess what happened).
I think he has now accepted that Anderson is a very good bowler.
Back to the book....
He speaks fairly highly of Moores, and suggests it was the older members of the squad that didnt take to him because he looked to shake things up in terms of fitness (wanted much more gym work for example).
It seems Harmy had the biggest issue with him, and he even refused to stay with the rest of the team when he was told he wasnt in the XI for a test match and instead just booked a taxi and fucked off.
Good bowler improved out of sight. A rare oversight on my part![]()
Aye but I seem to remember some daft knacker comparing Prior to Steven Hawkings behind the stumps![]()
His keeping has improved out of sight. Neither him nor Anderson are genuine world class but have made the best of their ability so cannot knock them for that.
Prior is arguably the best wicket keeper batsmen in the world right now and the only quicks better than Anderson are South African.
Stein and possibly Ajmal are the only two world class test bowlers knocking around atm. Dohni & Sangakkara are better than Prior.
Lets be clear between world class (ie, Donald, Ambrose, Warne) and very good (ie, Anderson, Morkel, Swann)

Dhoni is a quality player but no way is he better at either discipline than Prior.

Surely world class has to relate to the present. Many cricket fans from around the world would select Anderson and/or Prior in a current world XI. Just because you don't share or like the opinions of the majority doesn't mean that you can change the rules - and you are not going to be allowed a review either.![]()
I think its more a case of 15 years down the line, will people still refer to Anderson in the same breath as the three mentioned above. Anderson will be revered as much as a Stuart Mcgill or Jason Gillespie, high class performers but not in the class of a Warne, Donald etc
I think that's fair enough personally, the Gillespie comparison anyway, he will probably be recalled in the same breath as him, Ntini possibly?, the level just below true world class performers.

I think the phrase world class can be banded around a little too easily, world class are players such as Warne, McGrath, Donald, Ambrose - one in an era bowlers. The likes of Anderson, Gillespie, Ntini probably fall into the top class category, which is no mean feet at all.
If that's the definition of world class I would agree Anderson isn't that level. Personally I think if you play cricket and you are classed as one of the very best in the world at what you do then you are world class.
