LVCC D1 - Durham v Yorkshire

So you agree we need to get shot of the shite at the top of the order and bring in some proper talent?!

For whatever reasons, we can't bring in anyone right now so we've got to make the best of what we've got. You can't just magic new players out of thin air, we're stuck with what we've got, we may as well give them our support as calling them names and putting them down isn't going to help.

Everyone playing is doing their best, the fact that their best isn't good enough doesn't mean they don't care or they're not trying.

Aye, but you agree they're shite?!

For what it's worth, I was a member at Durham in the years we were going a whole season with only one Championship win and getting hammered regularly in all formats. Now work stops me from getting value out of a membership but I still follow every single game on the Internet as best I can.

What I'm trying to say is I'll always support them, no matter how bad it gets. BUT, as a supporter, I feel I'm within my rights to criticise when I feel they aren't performing well. Don't worry, when it is going well I'll be quick to applaud them too. It's not like I take some perverse pleasure in Durham doing badly, I just like to try and be real.

The happy clappers on the LMC boil my piss. Some fucker today was trying I dress 112-7 up as a decent score. When yet again the tail papered over the cracks left by the top order. Had the tail only managed 30 or so then we'd really be in the shit.

I wouldn't take anything said on LMC as gospel, after all, some fucker once said Rushworth only got a game because he was Mustards cousin.

Cannot believe people did not expect Durham to be in this shit with top order batsmen. In my humble opinion this problem has been coming for a while due to the incompetence of the Academy system. To get into the Academy over the last 6 to 7 years you need to be a "3 dimensional cricketer" so you have to be able to bat, bowl & field to even be considered. This straight away rules out specialist batsmen who bat 1,2 or 3 as according to our Leaders they aren't required.
Everyone keeps asking who's coming through the ranks and quite simply there isn't anyone. They even had to bring Jennings in from South Africa which is a joke. My club had an excellent prospect about 4 years ago but was shown the door because his bowling was not up to scratch. What a joke he was and still is a specialist batsmen and believe me still an excellent prospect.
Geoff Cook and John Windows need to take a good long look in the mirror as it was and still is there agreed strategy.
THERE ARE STILL NO SPECIALIST BATSMEN COMING THROUGH AND WITH THIS STRATEGY THERE NEVER WILL BE.
It's like a football club developing a team strategy without a striker or goalkeeper.
JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE.

I'm not sure that I agree with that. I take a keen interest in the DCB setup and I could name you a few lads coming through the system, right from U11's who are specialist batsmen. In fact the DCB has advanced batting classes for the best batsmen at all ages.

From my experience the DCB have a clear idea right from U11's who the best prospects are and what they want them to do for the team.

However its natural that they would also look for all rounders.

Interesting what you say. I have not seen much of the academy over the past few years and don't know much about the players coming through at the moment.
What i have noticed and have mentioned it on this site is the lack of our academy players in recent years who have actually represented England u19s. I can only think of Singh Stokes and Borthwick who have represented England at that level in the past 5 years. Compare that to 10 /12 years ago when i reckon we had over a dozen players from the academy play at that level in probably 3 seasons, I remember one England u19 match which was televised on sky when we had 4 Durham player in the starting line up.
I thought it was because over the past 6 years or so we have become such a competitive side and it was difficult for youngsters to break into a top side, but it is wide open at the moment and as you say they have gone with an import from South Africa ahead of a local player.

I agree, there are lads in the system who are specialist batters OR bowlers, there's also a lot of lads who are good all round cricketers. Youngsters who are good at both skills are more common now then they used to be, but it's been my experience over the years as a DCB coach that the best batters and bowlers will still get their chance without having to excell at both.

Of the lads I've seen, and coming back to the point that was made earlier, it is perhaps coincidental that they have been both good bowlers and good batsmen. That could be why if you arent good at both that you wouldnt progress.

If you had two lads who were equally good batsmen but one of them was also a very good bowler, you would surely go with the one who excelled at both disciplines?

Also and I'm happy to be corrected but the likes of say Rammi isnt a particularly brilliant bowler but gets into the side for his batting.

Yes, you don't forget ridiculous statements like that if you're a supporter of the club, would you like me to remind you who it was?

Yes please.

Although I get the feeling you're going to say it was me...... I can't ever remember saying that mind. For one, I wouldn't know a pointless fact like that

Was it fuck!! I might have repeated what someone else had said at an earlier stage - with a ton of sarcasm added on my part. I didn't say it first though.

The Internet is great, and unforgiving, nothing is every wiped out.

It's all in there somewhere. Durham v Hampshire makes interesting reading. :-D

Although to be fair the actual remark was deleted by Yvette but her reply and your apology is still there for all to see.

Yvette seemed to delete a lot of stuff around that time.

Anyway, back to this game.

The full covers are on and it's raining steady, the forecast is for rain until around tea time so might not get any play today.

Aye, I remember that now. Rather clearly, I still maintain that someone else must have said it first (maybe on here, maybe on the LMC) and mine was just a sarcastic reference to that. I'm not really clued up with the Mustard/Rushworth family tree!!

Not really bothered either way, I do tend to do a fair amount of trolling on there anyway.

As for this game - the forecast did say that by 1ish the rain should have cleared, we can afford to lose a session or two I guess anyway because the match is progressing quite well. Add to that - the dampness might help our bowlers a bit either through seam movement or some life in the pitch!
