India v England - 4th Test

Isn't Broad still only a doubt? If so, expect him to 'play through the pain' or miraculously recover in time to play.

Broad, injury of convenience. Onions deserves a chance ahead of Bresnan.

What's up with Finn??

Also, what's Meaker like with the bat? It's worth considering because he's taken wickets in the warm up games and as much as I'd love Onions to get a chance, he's done fuckall on tour as yet......

By the way, we're 10/11 with bet365 to win the toss (India are also 10/11), how can they justify that based on a 50/50 chance?!! Robbing kents, I'll not be placing a bet on that!

Because otherwise they'd not make much money on it. There's a reason bookies always drive flash cars.

And Finn has a back injury

So is anyone doing the early start for this one? I'm hoping not to, but for the 1st 3 tests my little one has had an uncanny knack for waking up about 5 minutes before play starts making temptation a little too strong.

In a funny sort of way, I hope we're bowling first. I just have a worrying feeling that if it is a square turner, we may find our bottle going if we're first up and can't get a decent score, whereas if we can have a go at them first, hopefully knocking them over cheaply, we'll have the confidence to get a decent score and a first innings lead.

I've been waking up for a piss around 4:15 lately so if I end up waking up then I might as well watch some.

That's so illogical it almost makes sense. We've done so well in backs against the wall situations in this series, them winning the toss isn't such a bad thing at this point. If they bat first and get 600 it's going to make the draw favourite since their attack looks toothless.

If the pitch does turn from session 1 then the toss will be almost irrelevant, and since our spinners have out bowled theirs we're still good value for the win.

I think there will be more pressure on whoever is batting first. If it's a featherbed, a score of 500 will be expected so pressure is off the bowlers, if it's a viper's nest, every run is valuable and our weaknesses against spin are far more likely to be exposed. We're also not good at guessing what a good score will be but, like you say, we are much more dangerous with the ball than they are.

Will probably watch the first session aye.

This is the key IMO. Our spinners are better than theirs, but our batsmen are weaker against spin than theirs are. The toss is definitely the least important of the series because a result is guaranteed, but the pressure on whoever bats first almost equals out having to bat last on a pitch which will be turning miles in the fourth innings.

England may spring big surprise ... Rumour from India .. Root to play

Wonder who will drop out...

Low bounce on the 2nd ball. This pitch could become a minefield within a couple of days. It's very conceivable we could get a low score first up here, but I'm just glad we won't have to bat 4th on here.
