2nd test - England v South Africa

No argument for me, but the call is wrong. Decent ump would have had this under control, make it clear - you kick the stumps it's a dead ball. To wait until it costs him a wicket is just pathetic.

This. He'd done it 3 times before the dead ball and the umpire didn't say anything to him.

problem is now that he cant get close to the stumps, and his next three balls were all way down leg, does that make him less effective to left handers? which means we are a bowler down in this test and no spinner

he's pretty f***ing limited if he is no use when he is not bowling from right close to the stumps.

maybe this will learn him - he can steer a bit clearer and hopefully still be a useful bowler. if he's not useful then get onions back in the side

Had Smith caught at slip but the bail at the non strikers ends had been disturbed so dead ball. Not out.

Mike Gatting has made the point on TMS. If Finn does it again and it's hit for 4, is it still a dead ball?

David Gower has just said the exact same thing.

I think it's fine if he's going to be called for it, but surely the umpire should have warned him. And why did he not call it the other times it'd already happened?

It's been called dead ball again. And it was his most dangerous delivery since the "wicket".

apparently swann was talking to umpires about this before the test started today - no other details

just called another dead ball for it

vaughan is whining about how he is gonig to have to change his bowlnig now.

no - it should have been corrected before he ever got an england cap.

falling over bowling a delivery FFS

think this is gonna be a huge mistake, who is gonna bowl the hard overs, trott? kp? no spinner is a joke, strauss has lost the plot, shit or bust i reckon

I dunno mate. Swan has hardly been ripping up trees of late. I for one am slightly glad weve gone down this route.

Finn is going to cost England a wicket from a run out by kicking the stumps sooner or later. Twice he's kicked them in his first over.

Mate divvunt worry bout it, he's get a lot more lbw's than the highly improbable run out chance.

is this a massive whoosh?

The stumps being kicked didn't put Smith off there when he hit that four

aye well i guess you could argue - if the rule is 'the batsmen being put off' then it would indeed only come into effect when the result is negative. much like with a no ball

True. But in most cases a dead ball for the batsman being put off is called if a batsman steps back. Smith didn't seem to falter at all as he edged to slip. He was just beaten by a good ball.

its a lot of work load for 4 bowlers if you cant rip out a side quickly. 4 pace bowlers make it a hell of a lot worse

:lol::lol: highly improbably chance - thats class lad.

I hear you mate. I like swan I just think he needs a kick up his arse.

is this a massive whoosh?

No mate. Whooshing is not allowed on the cricket board.

Im just being a tad facetious.

He's got the 2nd most wickets in 2012, after Ajmal.

What about edges to slip?

Hhhmm, might have to rethink me swan bashing I reckon. Could you provide more details please.

Edges to slip? I dont follow? How is finn hitting the stumps effect that?

I'd be tempted to play for a draw at this stage, especially given the forecast, and try and save face and draw the series next match. 80-0 with South Africa's line up this early is well on the way to a hiding for nothing.
