True , no real lifestyle change pretty much same diet /drink and I do not excercise everyday .

Can't really argue with that then! Although I'll wait for a proper trial before I go singing the praises of beetroot tablets.

The original research was from 2010 though so I'm guessing there's probably some work going on at the moment.

Hammer forget the trials and order some and try , will do you no harm as long as you are not on any other BP medication.
They work for me ,my daughters guy 41, had 165/95 after one week down to 130/80 , now after regular daily use average 125/80.
For me was 145/90 now after 3 months my average is 130/80 , on oner reading 127/80.

Like I said , for me they work, the NHS and GPs are always dismissive re natural remidies .
I also have more stamina and energy and I am 52 -for me they are the dogs bollocks .

Fine if they work for you.

I work in clinical trials and as soon as I read 2 of the researchers are directors of the company that wants to market a product related to it the alarm bells went right off.

Research must be independent.

Nevertheless - it might be worth further study. They did it with only 9 people who did not have HPB. Well that is normal for a phase 1 study - just looking at safety.

Next phase is a small scale phase 2 trial with people with the condition. looking at further safety and some efifacacy.

Then if all is well then there should be wide scale phase 3 trials.

I was in a presentation for some of our new drugs today - cost of a phase 3 is between 200 and 300 million Euro. We are talking early stage here so looking at 1 to 1.5 years before they are in the clinic ie humans and ready for a phase 1. Target time on market for 2 of them - 2025 and 2030!

My blood pressure's fine, my interest in this thread is a purely scientific one!

Didn't notice that!

The premise seems ok with them being high in nitrates. The premise behind antioxidant supplements seemed ok though, I suppose.

Not going to have much time to earn your money back on those!

Just off to get mine done again. I've had 3 pints of doom bar at dinner time. What effect do you reckon it will have on it?

Vaccines - no patent cliff!

To be honest both of those will need external funding and be almost given away due to the diseases involved and the epidemiology of those.

Nearly all the low hanging fruit has gone from vaccines now - now the game is going after more targeted disease that may just appear mostly in some population ie Hep E and Asians.

Makes more sense then. Seems like the low hanging fruit's gone from most areas of drug discovery from what I gather.

The productivity figures would tend to support that. Regulatory bodies are also rejecting "Me Too" drugs and are asking for ever higher efifacacy together with supporting epidemilogy and health economics/outcomes data.

The whole Health Economics arena is booming - they are in demand like never before in Pharma and everyone is rushing to build up their teams. You can not sell to payers anymore without evidence.

Pharma Sales reps are becoming extinct in the developed world and although booming in emerging markets it is thought once they mature it will follow the developed world.

I might have to ask you about jobs at some point, the end of my Phd is getting scarily close!

I got mine checked a couple of years ago as part of a general MOT. It was high first time but they said they check it three times. First time it was high, second time it was lower and on the third occasion the doctor said I had the blood pressure of an athlete. Funny how that last one just happened to coincide with my boss being on holiday. I knew the fucker used to wind me up but I'd never realised how much so I vowed from that moment I wouldn't take any more of his crap and so did my colleagues. We're still here and that bullying bastard has been moved on. Result all round

Mine yesterday was 148/96. Which was higher than 2 weeks ago. Dunno if the beer at dinnertime affected it. I am diabetes free which is good but me cholesterol is 5.6 so got telt off for that. I was told there is a 7% risk of having a stroke or heart attack in the next 10-20 years. So the nurse is now going to recommend me a health plan when I see her at the end of the month. Lost 4lbs in 2 weeks so that was canny too.

potassium suppliments and regular saunas and hot baths will lower it
