England v India - 2nd Test, Trent Bridge

thats completely irrelevant. My question was about how many series England have gone without defeat?

I think it was away to the Windies which seems a long time ago

x 2 Ashes series
x 2 Bangladesh Series
x 1 SA series
x 1 India series
x 1 Pakistan series
x 1 Sri Lanka series
x 1 Windies series

is that nine series without defeat? Or am I going wrong somewhere?

If Im right, that is the makings of a bloody good test side

The only series we've lost with Flower as coach is the first one in the Windies when there was all the shite about Pietersen/Moores etc. And IIRC we were 1 wicket away from wins in two games in that.

Best game in the world bar none..test cricket that is..only meaningful form of cricket ..and it is on the up..

This!

The game is on the up and we're leading the way. In 17 years watching test cricket, I can't remember an England team more capable of dominating the game than this one. Exciting times ahead!

Yes. Apparently Jimmy Anderson is a shit bowler and none of his ashes wickets count. Or something.

I think you'll also find that the wickets of Laxman and Dravid don't count because they batted higher up the order and none of the Mukund wickets count because Sehwag should have been playing.

On the bowling side, none of our runs count because Zaheer is injured and Singh is bowling like a knob.

I think that about covers it; basically, we're 2-0 down in a right and proper world. Here endeth the gospel according to Essex boy.

Are we number one yet?

Not until the end of the series, assuming that we win by a 2 test margin.

Duncan Fletcher proved himself when test cricket was of a much higher standard so do elaborate why I have let myself down

Because regardless of what Fletcher achieved, it was an irrelevant comment in context with this thread and you clearly said it in an attempt to wind people up. Fletcher was far from perfect mind, he oversaw some pretty dismal series as well as good ones and I doubt he'd be doing a better job with more with successful results than Flower is currently doing

well this tail you crow about was all started by a certain Fletcher

I havent crowed about this tail and I certainly haven't credited it to Andy Flower. It certainly wasn't Fletcher who Came up with the idea of a batting tail. Fairly sure the model for this was Australia.

I know I'd much rather watch a successful England team with the likes of Bell, Anderson, Broad, Swann etc that the likes of Graham Dilley with the new ball, Derek Pringle first change and Bill Athey getting his off stump removed on a frequent basis!!

This is a wonderful period for watching England cricket and the success of recent years now appears to have resulted in a conveyor belt of talented youngsters coming through or about to, in a similar way to the Australians of 15 years ago.

I'd much prefer to celebrate our collective strengths than criticise the shortcomings of individuals or opposition.

Let's see what the 3rd test brings with a rested Indian team, the return of Gambhir, Sehwag and Khan. England in England are too good for anyone at present, SA included in my opinion and I'm revelling in it.

So this England team is shit, but if there's anything good about them, no one currently connected to the team is allowed to take credit for it? Is your chief mission to be negative about England or just to be dull!

Very fair assessment.

If I can add one thing it would be that the groundwork was done by Nasser and Vaughanie creating a determination and professionalism that shows itself through genuine team spirit. How many other sides have 11 players who are all capable of producing match winning or match saving performances?

...and the benefits of this to them would be ?

Shane Warne suggested a global six-week break in test cricket to make room for the IPL. I can see where he's coming from because it's not the existence of shorter forms of cricket that's the problem, it's the mishmash of schedules that does for teams. India understandably want to accommodate a massive and successful 20/20 league, tests may suffer. England is focussing on the test side and were undercooked recently in one day cricket. Some kind of global balance is needed.

They could start by shortening the IPL, seemed far too long this year, it was bordering on tedious by the end.

that statement is naive at best idiotic at worse

why do you think they keep extending the IPL?

il give you a clue do the money men earn more money by playing a test in England in May infront of two men and a dog in the rain or in the IPL to a tv audience of billions
