Murray even today thinks the Washington plan would have been better for us then the SOL

As always the smb posters come up with the goods!!! When i started the thread i was unsure if there were photos around. I needed fear not!! Well done!!!! Thanks!!;)

I went on a school trip to roker park when this was happening, they had a full massive model built and it was in one of the room in roker park i have pics of it somewhere. It looked very impressive, glad it worked out as it did the move to that far out of town wouldve been terrible.

Me and my mate bought that model and it's currently sitting in the garage at home. The model looks quite good but the current position of the SoL is unbelievably good. The SoL site wasn't originally available at the time the Wembley design was developed, it took the pit being closed to allow the SoL to be built.

get some pictures of the model upped then mate

Bob Murray got the plans for the SOL for next to nowt from one that was already built, FACT.

Go on then, tell us which stadium is similar to the SoL then.

The Riverside was copied by Stoke and one other that I can't remember. I think Darlo's was based on a cut down version of the Riverside too.

I remember reading at the time that the design was rethought because the Wembley design would have been very expensive to extend whereas the SoL design was designed to be easily (and hence cheaply) extended. The north stand extention cost IIRC about £5.5 million.

really interesting stuff this...pics of that model would be mint anarl

All four are quite similar.

I would have absolutely hated to be playing in Washington like

I was "for" the Nissan move at the time. Looking back it would have been awful. Credit to Bob in getting it right in the end. :-D

Credit to Nissan for blocking the plans otherwise it would have been built.
