Hmm, skittle the tail, quickfire 250 and could we have a repeat.of Cardiff? I can't see the Sri Lanka batsman fancying being set 300 to win on the final day.

Or am I being far too optimistic?

i think you are

even if we get them sharpish i cant see us getting into a position where we could win the game (we definitely wouldnt dangle a carrot for them to chase anyway).

There's demons in this pitch now, moisture in the air, clouds overhead......

Strauss gone for 0, could be another magic result.

Cook has a test average of 50 opening but you wouldnt let him open

He might well have that average, and it's well deserved but I'd be looking to win. And we won't do that with Trott and Cook scoring at a strike rate of circa 60.00

Nothing to do with Cooks average at all.

the chances of forcing a result are slim with only 4 sessions left, so firstly you make sure you dont lose then try and force a win if required. The onus is on them to force it as they are 1 behind in the series

If we're going to be number 1 in the world, we need to win all Tests.

150 overs left with the game in the balance and you'd dick around with the batting line-up? Absolutely mental.

Not really, Prior has opened for Sussex and the ODIs so know whats required of an opener. Let them loose for 50/60 overs as if it were an ODI and give yourself plenty of time to bowl them out. If we had gotten 4 an over for those 50/60 overs then we'd have a solid, defendable lead. Calculated risks.

we wont be number 1 because our bowling isnt good enough

These are Test quality batsman man, not T20 sloggers.

There are potentially 150 overs left in this match, so in what way would throwing the bat for 50 overs help? Conditions as they are now mean it's an even more insane proposal.

Not a chance, never, no way.
