Travel insurance for the elderly

I'd like my dad to come and visit us in Sweden while he's still mobile. He's old, got 2 stents and takes a fistful of pills every day. But I've seen travel insurances advertised on tv for elderly with various conditions and wondered if anyone had any recommendations or experience with any of the companies?
European health cover is operative for Sweden . Id just use that if cover is a fortune. I mean if i need treatment for my ticker I'm as well of in hospital in Sweden as here until i can travel . Its not Africa

When i had an accident, non life threatening, they wanted to see my insurance details before they operated.
At which point you present them with a British passport and slap the ingrates with it!

Fool proof method which I've done myself. Insurance costs an arm and a leg, my method only cost an arm which they refused to operate on for some reason.

i've been to most countries in europe riding the bike and never had travel insurance, always relied on the e11/ehic card. luckily never needed to use it. it's only this year we've got proper travel insurance.

Totally weren't interested in that when I had my accident. No idea what would have happened if I hadn't been insured

surestart were class when my aunty broke her hip in tenerife

I got quoted medical insurance £500 for 2 weeks or £600 for a year ,robbing gets

Also Keane it in the basket after you find a policy, invariably they'll come with a discount code

I have Nationwide Flex its travel insurance told me no chance, Staysure just laughed and that was before my heart started playing silly buggers.

Was discussing this yesterday. What’s to stop you taking no insurance, getting emergency treatment if required, then buggering off back to England and refusing to pay the bill?
Nothing, except as I live there I'll get stuck with the bill 😵‍💫

Thought it just covered basic emergency care. Does it cover emergency travel home etc?

I signed up to Revolut as one of their premium plans includes travel insurance, and I think other of the new banks do as well. Haven't tested/researched it much beyond that mind.

Was in SE Asia for a month last year, cost £200 ish for the month, Leisure Guard I think it was.

You don't need to submit any details, as pre-existing conditions aren't covered under this policy. To better understand please see the definition of pre-existing medical condition in your policy wording.

My mam & dad swore by them & they took care of everything when my mam died on Holiday in Zante. It was her 4th heart attack & not even a hint of trying to wriggle out of it because it was a pre-existing condition.

Me & the Mrs had been with Staysure for the last 3 years and would have been happy to go with them again (policy was due to renew in early April). BUT, very recently we have both developed suspected conditions but with no formal diagnoses for those conditions until we see our respective specialists in a few months time. When we spoke to Staysure about this not only did they say they would not cover us for these as yet undiagnosed conditions ( fair enough) but nor would they cover us for any of the other previously diagnosed and previously insured ailments either ( not fair enough). They still had the cheek to offer us a quotation for what would be a completely useless policy. And they still sent us the paperwork for it. When I read it through the list of exclusions rendered it a total waste of money.
We’ve since gone via a BIBA listed Sunderland based company - Just Travelcover in Toward Rd - and ended up with a satisfactory policy with AIG. More money but more assurance. Hope this helps a bit.

My parents had travel insurance through the bank account they have.

My old man was diagnosed with prostate cancer and needed radiotherapy, so they cancelled a trip to South Africa and put an insurance claim in.

They heard nothing so my mother rang up and ended up speaking to a supervisor, who stated clearly that they wouldn’t pay out on her part of the claim as she still could have travelled on her own.

It took a year to get resolved and they still ended up not being paid the full amounts due , took the threat of going legal to get the ball rolling and the threat of newspapers and tv to get the payment ,

Ending pissing off a couple in their 80’s with one of them suffering from cancer to reduce the pay out , utterly shameful behaviour.

It is mate. I have a general contempt for all insurers but appreciate they are a necessary evil so I try and scrutinise policies meticulously to try and avoid any potential banana skins. Nevertheless you get the feeling they are often predisposed to decline claims, even those made in good faith.
And while we’re at it, can you think of any other service or product which penalises you when you use it - in insurers cases increasing future premiums because a claim
has been made? It’s a bit like John Lewis asking me for more money as soon as I turn my new telly on.
