Sunderland need to take more tactical risks, says talisman Adam Johnson

Johnson is being wasted by t ge defenseive tactics we are playing atm. It maybe that gus doesn't have the confidence in our current MF personnel to be an attacking unit, but hanging AJ out to dry when he is back to receiving the ball in our own half and is spending more time trying to help our defence than taking on opposing defenders , is a cop out.
In an attacking formation with team mates in advanced positions alan johnson is a class act.

He is right though. Play with 3 in the middle and its too defensive. We have some good technical players who flourish goin forward. We are cutting them out of the game by playin the way we do. Currently its like watchin us under oneill rather than when gus arrived and we used the ball going forward and it was about creating goals

The anarchy has started. It will end one of two ways. Gus will adopt a new carefree attitude to formation and tactics and pass it off as his own OR Gus will resign.

Two in the middle and we get steamrollered - always. Not got the physical presence and mobility in there to do it.

It doesnt make a difference. We lose the midfield battle with 3 and lose out further up the field. Easy for teams to defend and set up shop in our half. Too negative

AJ has to play 90 minutes consistently if we are to create things.

He needs more game time under Gus. Was checking the premier leagues combined goals + assists stats from last season and AJ was our top performer.
One of the reasons why we are where we are is AJ not playing enough + Wickham not being the player down the middle in a 4-5-1 + poor strengthening.

I like how it saved us from relegation with a bunch of rank average players

To be fair, Poyet did not make Buckley's crossing dink.

He did not make Connor Whickham greedy as fuck.

He did not make Brown and Mannine make stupid errors

PLAYERS.
Agreed. He does however tell them camp in our own half and gets no one in the boX

Whether that is on Poyet's instructions or the team play that way in spite of what Poyet instructs - you decide

I can agree that we don't know, but Johnno definitely didn't say the tactics were wrong, it's the players' attitude if anything he seems to be having a dig at. The headline was just made up by HITC to get a bit of attention.

The problems seem to be one of players not making themselves available when others have the ball. As the **** Rodgers said a few years ago, there should always be at least two decent options when a player receives the ball. Very often, the receiving player barely has one option. Poyet should fine the defenders for passing back to Manone, it has become an acceptable routine for too many of them. Same applies to midfielders passing to JOS.

He's spot on.

Creative players can only create if they get players around them making runs into areas to be picked out. Far far too often Johnson is given the ball in a deep and wide position and expected to do something. Its not going to happen. If Messi was given the ball on the half way line out wide then he wouldn't be dangerous either.

If Poyet can't change the way we play to get the team further forward, or he is scared by the lack of pace in the likes of Larsson, Cattermole, O'Shea, Brown, Vergini etc then he should look to utilise the personnel in a different way to negate it.
You are spot on. We got rid of Colback cause he had to much pace.

Hes spot on just a pity pouyet and half the numb fookers on here cant see the obvious.
Just about everyone in wa own half the johnsons of this world are easy pickings when defences are quite able to double up on him without any worry of overlaps or attacking options. For a cultured attacking player like pouyet its quite baffling where his tactics come from.
