Handout? I think the government have just underwritten any potential losses that may occur as a result of leaving the EU, and who knows what the future holds?

It would have to be in a roundabout way though, as direct cash subsidies would be illegal under WTO rules, Sky are speculating it could be in the form of improving their transport infrastructure, training grants or assistance to their local supply chain, all of which is fantastic news for Sunderland and the region in general:p

Great news for the region.

Can guarantee we'll not hear at what cost this has come to the government, it'll be explained away as being commercially sensitive .

About time the government stepped in to preserve North East manufacturing though I suppose even if that wasn't their main intention . Pretty obvious they couldn't risk the fallout from the first big manufacturer to make a decision taking their order book overseas.

Im glad that so many peoples jobs in the region are now looking more secure - especially at a time of the year when families are starting to look towards Christmas ect...

All this talk about the political side of things and the emphasis on NMUK itself has left another side to Nissan which benefits totally ignored - the supply companies. This is from a so-called mag rag called The Chronicle in 2014.

How has it been ignored? If Nissan pulled out of the UK, then this would be news, as it's not, it's status quo for the supply chain, therefore not newsworthy.

Did you not read or watch the news?! It was about Nissan securing jobs by building the new Qasqaui and X-Trail. But it was NOT about the further securing of jobs in the supply chain companies.

How could you think a Sunderland minus Nissan would still mean companies like Unipres and Vantec would still continue you thick kernt?!! OK they may still be around but I don't think they would have anywhere near the same level of business!!:lol:

I'm thick?

Of course Nissan staying also ensures the supply chain remains. The overriding story is the fate of Nissan. They haven't felt it necessary to point out the blatantly obvious.

If Nissan were leaving, then the wider impacts would also become newsworthy.

The news may not have reported it mate but most people in this thread realise that Nissan employs about 7k with a further 20k in the supply chain.

Just because they haven't mentioned it doesn't mean they don't appreciate it you dozy twonk.
