People who use phones when driving

But that only applies to low ability individuals. How do you know what a particular driver's abilities are?
F1 drivers have almost superhuman reaction times and the ability to process lots of information extremely quickly. Are you suggesting you have them, and then you have the rest of the world's drivers in two completely separate groups? You don't think there's a scale of ability? Of course there is, and nobody can comment on another driver's abilities without subjecting them to some kind of rigorous examination. We've all passed our driving test, which proves that everyone on the road at least makes the bottom grade. But some passed it first time with no major faults, while others took numerous attempts. That's immediately an broad indication of abilities there. But beyond that there's no way of knowing how skilled a driver is and how much information they can process at once.

Insults? 1) You are again calling me fat. Once again, I'm not

2) And no, you are dealing in semantics around the word fast

Indeed

1) I didn't, please learn to read, but I hardly think that someone who is, supposedly, 5'8" (max) and weighs in at around 14 stones can be thought of as being "slim"!

2) Again, I'm not - when the first motorway opened in the late 50's the term used to describe the outside lane was the "fast lane".

The government soon realised their mistake when it was found that some drivers thought they were driving "fast" but were just causing frustration and queues, because they were "tootling along" at lower speeds than others wished to drive at.

That was, of course, before the 70mph limit was introduced but the same mentality seems to still exist in those referring to it as the fast lane!

To give you some factual information from the current Highway Code:

Lane discipline (rules 264 to 266)
Rule 264
You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past. Slow-moving or speed-restricted vehicles should always remain in the left-hand lane of the carriageway unless overtaking. You MUST NOT drive on the hard shoulder except in an emergency or if directed to do so by the police, traffic officers in uniform or by signs.

Dual carriageways
A dual carriageway is a road which has a central reservation to separate the carriageways.

Rule 137
On a two-lane dual carriageway you should stay in the left-hand lane. Use the right-hand lane for overtaking or turning right. After overtaking, move back to the left-hand lane when it is safe to do so.

Rule 138
On a three-lane dual carriageway, you may use the middle lane or the right-hand lane to overtake but return to the middle and then the left-hand lane when it is safe.

If someone doesn't understand the basic requirements of lane discipline then, imho, they should have their Licence withdrawn for a minimum period (3 years?).

1) none of this is true
2) I can drive thanks. But well done for judging someone's mentality on using a widely used term "fast". I think we all get the point, no matter how bewildering.

1) If you say not .

2) I can, fully, understand why you might find the thought of "lane discipline" bewildering .

3) As previously posted "Now mince/waddle off and try to find someone else to wind up - I'm getting bored with your continual snipes at me."

Let me tell you a story (said in my best Max Bygraves voice) about something I witnessed about 35 years ago.

I was walking my dog (a Doberman on a lead) in a large park and spotted a young woman doing the same walking towards me (hers was a Rottweiler) when, out of nowhere, a porky Jack Russell appeared and started snarling at the 'Rot', whilst trying to bite its legs.

To start with I thought it was quite amusing as the 'Rot', essentially, danced to avoid the JR's teeth but after enduring this for a few minutes the 'Rot' decided it had had enough and picked up the JR by the neck. biting hard, then tossing it away like a rag doll (I later found out that it had killed it).

The young woman had just frozen when this took place and I was later asked to provide a statement to the police about what I'd seen.

This I was more than happy to do because in no way was the 'Rot' at fault and I was very pleased to later learn that no further action was taken against the young woman or the dog.

To me it was natural justice, no more no less!

Lorry driver pulled into the middle lane when the left lane was clear, causing my dad to slam on the brakes at around 65mph. Pulled out to go round him and there he was on his phone. Twat. Why wait until someone is killed before the culprit gets done?
