Palace bid £31m for Benteke

His record is unreal man

I agree, it's difficult to argue with the numbers alone but I've watched him a lot and he can be very erratic at times and look like the original dog with a balloon. Everything is relative and putting his value up there with some of the best players in the world is a joke imo.

They're very close to signing James Tomkins apparently. Must admit they're doing some impressive business, I think Mandanda, Townsend and him could all have added something to our first team.

All we've done by staying up for the new tv deal is stave off financial Armageddon.....we still can't compete with most of the clubs in the league spending wise and as fans have to accept that our spending will be modest compared to most of our rivals......but that's not necessarily a bad thing if (as I believe) we have sme decent players and a good team spirit. £30m would imo be enough, if spent wisely, to make us competitive.

Exactly. It stops clubs like us trying to compete. It's sole purpose is to keep the top clubs at the top.

Look at them talking about big clubs having automatic entry to the champions league. How dare Leicester compete eh
It's to stop clubs spending more money than they earn, so that they don't go bust when the rich owner or bank pull th plug

He would be a f***ing mint signing

Why does the fee matter, he's oribsbly realistically the best striker they could get, so he's worth that value to them

Just because the mags bought badly doesn't mean that everyone who spends money is going to end up relegated, ridiculous comment. Stoke spent a fair amount over last couple of seasons and have kicked on. I'd take my chance on spending big on Benteke and Townsend over our current activity which revolves around taking utter shite like N'Zogbia on trial. Good old Ellis.

Give it a rest mate, it's a bit too early to have a dig at Short.

Well good luck trying to pull a rabbit out the hat every time.

There are loads of examples of good cheap buys and bad expensive ones but the fact of the matter is that there is a direct correlation between spend and quality of player. That's why the likes or Real Madrid are constantly successful.

We tend to spend big on Shiite players though

Agree 100%. Sam needs a certain type of player for his system and those players don't have to be too expensive, he has a good eye for what he needs.
Mid table is the best we can hope for until we offload some of that growing debt.

Could be a good signing for Palace, he's certainly the right kind of striker for Pardew's particular style of football. £31m sounds a lot, but the market has changed so much, it's probably about right.

A lot of clubs operate duplicitous transfer policies though.....we've done it for years. First of all offer ridiculous fees and encourage speculation over players you've got little chance of signing (be honest, how many "wow" transfers have lower PL clubs managed to pull off these last few years). Then, if you manage to bring an expensive signing in shuffle a few the fans would rather keep out of the door to balance the books. Overall net spend a lot less than the early speculation would suggest.

Would be a brilliant signing. Talking about improving the first team. Mandanda, Towsend and possibly Benteke. Very good.
I'm not convinced that Townsend does necessarily improve their first team if it's at the expense of Bolasie. I don't rate Bolasie as highly as most but I'm still not convinced by Townsend either.

Agree that the status quo, but wouldn't say it's duplicitous.

Benteke makes sense because he's far better than what they have, he's the right fit for the tactics and, in the current market, the valuation is probably about right. Nobody would bat an eye if he went for £20-25m, surely?

If they were making big offers for Lacazette then signing some no mark from Monaco, then you could call them duplicitous.

I wouldnt be happy if we were bidding 31 million on Benteke like, Its ridiculous.

It's the going rate. He is a good striker - having a nightmare at Liverpool but still getting 1 goal in every 3

Kirchoff cost £750,000. Kone cost £5 million, Rodwell cost £10 million, if ever three players proved its not always about the size of the fee it's these three

If people think Sam is going to find bargains like this every transfer winder, they're mad

31mil on Benteke and 12mil for Tompkins when their ground is a tip is bewildering
It's really not.

We can't move as there is a lack of space and what space there is is a nightmare to get planning permission as it falls under three local councils, try to get planning permission to modify the stadium and the local residents complain about sunlight etc.

All avenues have and still are being explored, we have the money to do the work however it's actually getting the permission that is difficult.

Think so. Steve Parish still the main man but brought in American investment.
Four co-chairmen took over in 2010. Two Americans invested heavily in December 2015.

Talk of Bolasie playing behind Benteke, if he signs of course.
