Zak Johnson

He’s still only 20 isn’t he? He’s got plenty of time to improve and Ghisolfi is looking for the next Ballard
He’ll be 22 when the season starts next year.

So far he’s had loans in Ireland, his last was league two where he struggled and then went back over this season to the national league

He’s look poor whenever he’s stepped up to the first team. I’d be flabbergasted if he became a premier league footballer.

sometimes isn't linear for these lads

if his attitude is as good as they say it is, he's got a chance to make a great living in the sport

ask L09 about that

Wasn't that a lot to do with injuries though? Think he had quite a serious one and Johnson has been pretty much fit and available as far as I can remember.
He broke his leg at the age of 20, but went on to play more games on loan down the leagues before working his way up with Brentford and Sheff Utd.

Point remains, that 20 years old is still young and too soon to write someone off - not saying he'll ever play a league game for us, but it's entirely possible he could follow a similar path to Egan.
Harry Maguire was playing L1 football at the age of 22

He’s going to be 22 end of the season and his highest real season is York. It’s an uphill battle from here

John Egan was released by Sunderland at the age of 22 without playing a game for us. By the age of 27 he was a Premier League player.
Egan was a better player than Johnson imo. It’s a tough one for players like those tbf. I don’t think that a pl club has time to wait for a young player to gain experience into their mid-late 20s before they can contribute.

As an illustration Johnson is less than 2 years younger than Hjelde but I wouldn’t be confident that he’s capable of getting a championship loan in two years. And even using that as a yardstick relies on thinking that Hjelde has a shot at contributing at pl level in time.

I'm not saying it isn't possible but I think Egan would've had games in the Prem for us if it wasn't for injury so it's not quite the same situation. There's been opportunities where Johnson could've played in the Championship and he was no where near getting a game - even when we had no CBs for the Luton play off and the agenda has been to give youth a chance.

if he ever makes it at championship level I’ll eat my hat. Never mind premier league

Hes got the talent to be a championship defender imo. He reminds me of Danny Batth. Plenty of time as defenders dont peak till mid to late 20s.

Hopefully he can help york get promoted and play league football with them next year

No he isnt. He will be 21.

He’s 22 in July so you’re both right :)

Haven’t seen a lot of him. But he was shocking when I saw him play for York the other week. One game only of course

Look at a few players like Ballard there sometimes take different paths. He’s still very young so may come good in time. Maybe not here but he seems to be improving and playing will do him great.
