Yann M'vila - target or not?

We went into January with 3 wins on the board. The whole team had struggled up until that point.
That doesn't mean he as an individual played poorly though. He was widely thought to have dipped in form in the second half of the season, but in reality his role changed - he went from more of an all-action ball winner to more of a sitter who dropped back to cover PVA bombing on.

He was excellent that season. There are some mental takes on here.

Still don't get why people are so obsessed with former players though.

That was sorta my recollection.

Kirch took on what had been the M'Vila role, and was better at it.

I'm generally not a fan of bringing back former players but in this case I'd be quite keen. Unlike the Defoe signing he's just finished a season where he was 1st choice at a good level & would be an upgrade on Evans who is the same age & has only managed 1 full season at this level since his mid 20s.

Can't see it happening though as I can see him getting much better wage offers than we could afford.

My memory of him is running diagonals covering a lot of ground tackling behind the 'wing backs' both sides

He grafted like fuck and was a proper workhorse and wanted to get involved unlike Rodwell who let play go on around him and 'hiding'. Here's one gif comparing the work he did covering the pitch compared to Rodwell. Rodwell is the person who runs towards the player that Shelvey passed to and M'Vila is the player beside Shelvey when he passes.

This one shows just how much running he did. He's the one in the centre circle and Rodwell ends up beside him. Watch how Rodwell just jogs about following the ref (the ref runs more, in fact a crisp packet blowing about would cover more ground than Rodwell) yet M'Vila got more involved and was nearly away come the end of the clip if not for the foul.

This one shows again how he grafted and gave a fuck. Rodwell yards ahead but doesn't react to the block ball by M'Vila

Abandoning him at the airport was one of the great sins in our club's history. Set us off on a downward spiral from which we are still recovering.
