Wrexham....

Interesting times in the Championship.

In each of the 3 years we were there, two of the promoted teams were clubs who had been relegated within the past two years, had parachute payments and spent money to give promotion a real crack, with the other promoted teams being more of a surprise package (Luton, Ipswich, us).

This season, 3 of the 4 teams to have played in the Prem in the last two years are struggling, the top two have been knocking on the door around the play offs for years and spent decent money trying to bridge the gap and Ipswich in 3rd have spent less time in the top 2 divisions than anyone bar about 4 teams. In past seasons I think we all thought the likes of Leicester, Sheff United and Southampton were no great shakes and poorly run but the parachute payments allowed them to gamble and just outmuscle the rest but looks as though that has come back to bite them. Unique opportunity this season for the likes of Wrexham, Coventry, Boro as well as the likes of Millwall, Preston and Hull to really go for it while the parachute clubs are asleep. It'll be a lot harder next year when West Ham and Wolves are down there.

They will be a problem when they get promoted as I suspect they'll be able to get very lucrative commercial deals. Pretty sure their current ones are way higher than what other championship clubs get.

What is the current EFL record trader fee?
Mitrovic for Fulham?

Ipswich bought that Egeli for about £18m last summer. Think he's the highest.
Dobson is a regular as well, isn't he? The mind boggles.

He always had the potential to be a good, solid Championship player. Just because it didn't work out for him here doesn't make him a bad player. Doubt he's got enough to ever step up to Premier League level but you never know. No doubt he'll make a good career in the 2nd division though.

Are you serious? I thought he was so bad for us, couldn't seem to pass the ball properly and for the most part chased shadows. Probably best well known for running his hands through his hair, constantly.

Hopefully he's developed and improved. Best of luck to the lad, he's done well to earn a career in the Champo.

That fee will include all kinds of promotion related adds ons and bonuses. No way they will pay £19m up front. If he gets them up via the play offs it will be money well spent. If they don't go up the fee will be much lower than that

If they go up they won’t be able to spend much ?
Rules changes means it doesn't matter as much anymore, the new rules largely nullified our careful spending in the championship.
Stoke have one of the richest ownership groups in the world. They cant blow money due to Championship spending restrictions. Wrexham had huge revenue for a league 2 or even 1 club but they are nothing special at Championship level. There's also the fact that there is less hype around them now, they aren't steamrolling the league and the initial new novelty factor has worn off
Wrexham had higher revenues than all championship teams outside of a couple of recently relegated team, while they were in league 1. It will have risen again since promotion to the championship.

19 million for some bloke who's scored 4 in 18 games? 😂

I reckon the Yanks are thinking he's an actual Sheriff and it will make a great storyline on their documentaries

Already spent more than 30 million this season. Fucked if they dont go up surely?

They can't lose £39m over three seasons whilst in The Championship.

They're not a typical club though so their revenue sources could be massive from Disney, retail sales in the states, huge sponsorship deals etc. Their turnover in the 2023/24 season was £27m whilst in League Two. For reference, ours was £38m for the same period whilst in The Championship.

estimates their revenue this season to be £60m+ which is just ridiculous if it's anywhere near true.
