Would you challenge racism/homophobia at the game?

Oh I'm sure the linguists on here always say they are gay when they're feeling happy and care free. Absolutely convinced of it
As someone who had to study linguistics as part of my degree (and thus has a baseless sense of authority on such matters), I can confirm that nee buggah uses it to mean happy any more.

This story doing the rounds now on Twitter, worth a read (you don't need Twitter to view it...)

Really disappointing to hear, and the lad and his Dad in question should be hoyed out and never allowed back in as far as I'm concerned. Disappointed that neither were reported to stewards by the lad posting the story nor by the surrounding fans who would have witnessed it.

So, how would you deal with this behaviour? Tell a steward? Or do you fear the potential violent repercussions from braindead aggressive bigoted scum?

years ago - chopra 1-0 versus Spurs. I took a black female friend (from London via Nigeria) to the SOL. We were in the North Stand (black cats bar ) seats and this one loon was on one about Nyron - 'you useless black c**t'. I said to the guy 'hey mate you cant say that FFS' he just looked at me and my friend and said 'but he is man, hes a fuckin useless black c**t'

I more found it a bit embarassing because he failed to understand it was the black i was objecting to and not Nyrons ability.

To be fair to our fans and most clubs now - anyone who says such stuff is clearly the exception and not the rule and whilst it may have been greeted with laughter in the 80s it is now greeted by deadly silence.

I never usually post on here, just read the comments but feel like I should speak up on this.

As a gay man seeing someone speak up against homophobia and racism is a good thing. Even if the lad saying it was young. There’s just no place for it in modern society. I’ve never had or heard anything homophobic whilst at the SOL, which is great but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

I don’t find the word puff offensive at all, some might but I don’t. The word f*ggot I do. It’s up there with the N word, for me.

And let’s be honest, when was the last time you used the word gay to mean happy?
Would you ban 'Fairytale of New York'?

I might get f***ing pelters for this but I’m just being honest - I’d be much more inclined to say/do something if it was racist rather than homophobic. By no means do I think either are acceptable but I’d react more to someone calling a player a black **** than someone shouting “get up ya puff” for example.

My tuppence worth...rarely hear any racist comment during games..home or away....so a big improvement from years ago..but we often hear racist songs/jokes on public transport going to and from matches...Late night train travel seems to attract a lot of pissed up racist knuckleheads..
